How much does it cost for an Amateur to play in the A&T Pro Am?

I was just curious if anyone had an idea of what the cost if for an amateur to play in the AT&T Pro Am, or even the Hope? I am sure that it must be pricey, and I would bet that even if you had the cash it would be difficult to get into the event, since so many of the spots are taken by celebrities, athletes, corporate exec's, etc.

It's $15,000 to play in the AT&T Pro-Am, but that's the easy part. Getting on the list is much, much tougher.

I believe they comp some of the guys in retain for appearances during the week at different tournament functions. I also read they tried to comp Bill Murray, but he always pays.

A friend of mine played in the Bob Hope and has done for the last 4 years.

He is a member of the third course they are playing this week and lives between California and Florida.

I asked him why he did not play the ATT and he told me that you cannot get a spot.

ATT give them to the celebs and then their major clients come next.

They have other pro-am's going on at the same time there ... if you're a pretty big AT&T client, but not big enough, you play at Poppy Hills or something like that.

What does it cost to play in the Hope? I think I would rather play the hope to be honest with you.

If you pay my airfare and my green fee ill play with you.. Much cheaper than ATT or Hope and I wont make you feel bad about your golf game like playing with a pro will.

I would think a lot. But don’t most of those guys go on corporate sponsorship? I can’t imagine your average earner having the funds himself.

Yeah, the last time that anyone I knew personally played in it (the man is one of the great ams in state history, and a very successful businessman), it was back when the Crosby family still had some involvement. He knew Nathaniel, from am events and from owning properties in the Pinehurst area. Nathaniel invited him. Twice, I think. And it was 15k back then! If it is still 15k, that's remarkably little inflation. And, in addition, the story is that everybody is hit up for a whole bunch of charitable donations in addition to the pro-am entry fee. Twice would be enough for most people.

I've heard as much as $25k. The most recent number from a 2014 Golf Digest article was $18,500

Most people throw around $25,000 as the number but it’s incredibly hard for some reason to do any research on it. Google it all you want but I don’t think you’ll find a definitive answer that you can trust.

 

What can be said about the cost is that it doesn’t really matter. If you are on that short list and get invited, you surely have enough money that you don’t really care. You aren’t getting an invite in the first place if you couldn’t afford it at ten times the price.

Put it this way. If you are young and you really want to play the pro am, take the short cut and join the tour.
