Any Success?
Has anyone tried these irons and loved them? I've tried them, and thought about getting a set, but want second opinions. They were LONG. I hit shots with clubs that I'd never hit before..Any thoughts? Anyone else hit them exceptionally longer?

I've hit them, and yes, they are long, but this is a topic that's been posted many, many times on these boards. They have extremely strong lofts. For example, I can't remember the exact numbers, but when Taylormade claims that "our six iron is longer than your six iron", it's not a fair comparison because the loft of their 6-iron is about on par with most other 5-irons.

Try hitting your current 5-iron (and then some, probably) and compare it to TM's 6-iron and tell me how much farther you hit it. Seriously...tell me! I've heard so much about this one aspect of these clubs that I honestly don't know how hot they legitimately are off the face!

Thanks for your reply. I do know that they've got the stronger lofts, but it seemed like they had an even higher flight than my current irons. The thing I am concerned about though, is that they might not blend with my other clubs. If I hit them a club further, or even two, that is going to leave a distance gap somewhere. I guess my question is more for the people who play them, how they've worked out the issues with their distance gaps if they hit them so much farther and if it was worth it..

ive played them now for almost a year and have to say i am very pleased with them. dont listen to those people who whine about the jacked up lofts, most of them have never even hit a burner iron. the lofts are not the whole story. in fact i had mine bent weak then had px 5.5 installed in them at standard length, not burner length and they are still longer than just about any other iron. they really have a nice feel to them and i really like the sole grind. beware if you are already a high ball hitter, the stock shafts are made to get the ball in the air. they go very high, that is why i swapped out the stock shafts. they really are a nice blended set, the short irons are very accurate and the long irons are easy to hit. for me, i went with a 4-pw with the pw at 47*, then i have a 52* wedge and a 58* wedge. works for me.

Benthegolfer, That's funny, because your issue is EXACTLY what turned me off of them last year! I liked the look of the burners and the light shafts, and they even felt quite good, but they just didn't jive with my woods, hybrids (especially) and my wedges. Also, my distance isn't really all that important for me; all I care about is that my distances are accurate and consistent. I hit my 7 iron 150. Could I hit the burner 7-iron longer? definitely, but the distances and dispersion weren't as consistent. I know with my irons that if I'm 150 out, I will stick the 7 on the green, often close to the pin.

Instead of the burners, I picked up the Nike full cavities. Great, clean looking sticks with lots of forgiveness, but decent feedback on mishits. You should give them a try. They won't go as long, but you should get much more repeatable results.

Just my opinion!

I bought a 3 weeks ago. I must say, 7-PW are incredible, but 5 & 6 irons are not my favorite. I immediately went on eBay, and bought the Burner Plus 5 & 6 and I absolutely love them. I'm a high handicapper, but for some reason have a pretty good short game, Gap wedge to putter. Anyway, I really don't have a point other than, how nice they feel and how you can straight up murder the ball. I don't have any qualms about the strong lofts and lies on these clubs, golf is about confidence, and if you can that confidence playing stronger lofts more power to you. It is a good feeling when your playing partner asks you , "what club are you using 170 out" and you say "a 6 iron".

As some one else experiensed I also had some issues with the Burners. The distances were not consistnt and the dispersion was ok. I hit against my 6 iron and two others I was trying at the range. My 6 iron and the other two were better in dispersion and distances were very predictable. The dispersion issue can always be improved with the right shaft. Two other guys and my buddy also tried the burners and all noticed the distance issue. It was if the face had hot spots or something.

I have them and LOVE mine. I have them custom from Taylor Made with KBS Tours, at +1/2" over std (not Burner length), and they are just such wonderful irons. GREAT feel, and accuracy. They are just so easy to hit.

Folks that have so-so reviews probably tried them with the stock 85 gram shaft. These clubs (with the KBS Tours & DGS300's) are rock solid. Very easy to hit, 4 iron through Gap Wedge. I can hit a draw, fade, and more importantly, an easy straight shot. I hit them high just like I prefer, and LONG.

Don't listen to others here that may have just hit the demo 6-iron. To truly enjoy the set, find a set with an upgraded shaft and you'll LOVE them. Seriously.

Today I hit my Burner 6-iron against the MX300 6-iron, outdoors. Now I've hit the MX300 with: KBS Tour stiff, stock Dynalite stiff, PX 5.5 & PX 6.0. And I found that the Burner was not only easier to hit, but more consistent than the MX300 with any of those shafts, even the MX300/KBS Tour combo!

Since putting them in play, I've hit more GIR's than you can shake a fist at, and on narrow fairways, I can use the 4-iron to get me in play. Dispersion has been awesome.

I HIGHLY recommend them.

correct me if I am wrong with this jacked up loft thing. I would believe that Taylormade has done a ton of testing with these irons with machines and average golfers alike. I find it hard to believe that any company would just throw out strong lofted irons just to do so. They need to get every iron elevated and on the right trajectory. The Burner 09 claims to have more ballspeed than most irons which I have seen because of the face technology. Lets say they kept the lofts at standard in other words the PW is 48*. With standard lofts and that extra ballspeed, wouldnt people just hit moon balls that didnt go anywhere? I know drivers are a different animal but you see pros like Tiger and JB who create higher ballspeeds with 8* and 9* drivers. Put them in lets say a 12* driver and the results would change obviously because that loft is not optimum for them. I could be way off here but it just seems that clubs with such low CG need to have stronger lofts to keep that launch and ballflight optimum.

I bagged them this year and shot my best scores with consistency. Nice blended set - more offset in longer irons, less in shorter irons. That said, the offset in the longer irons is offputting. 6-PW works really well for me. I shortened the length of the 5-6-7, used standard length 8-AW. Stock graphite shafts do launch too high for me, but I am a high spin, high ball hitter. This set doesn't deserve all the vituperous comments, nor does it deserve platitudes. I'm auditioning replacements (i15's), but it is a good set that has worked well for me and may stay in the bag.
