Phoenix Summer Golf 2010

[One_Putt_Blunder]

Played Vista a few more times since my last post, best $25 you can spend on golf in the valley right now. Still in terrific shape it looked like they did a light sanding of the greens just after my last post but they were still rolling and should be terrific right now.

Super pumped just found out I am playing Desert Forest next Friday, always great to check off another top 100 course from the list. Now if someone can get me on Whisper Rock that would be awesome.

That sounds great about Desert Forest, ONe_putt. That gives enough time for them to widen the fairways for you. I've already put in a call to the super for you....

So I had the opportunity to play Desert Forest yesterday. It was a great experience, wonderful golf course with a hint of classic golf course design and features of a regular desert layout. Only like 57 acres of turf out there and some very tiny greens. Off the tee was way more narrow than I would expect from a desert course design some of the target spots were only 10-20 yards wide. Greens were rolling right around a 12 for this weekends Pro/Scratch tourney and the pins were set up tough.

haha it kinda sorta does... especially the tee shots. Ancala has much more desert IMO. (Ya know, where our balls go... haha)

They were getting set for the annual pro scratch 2 man best ball tourney which looked like there were some very serious gamers playing. These young dudes were taking it deep off the tee like my distance plus 75 yards carry. Ill try and find out the winning number on monday. I was not a part of it just happened to play before their practice rounds. Saw a few staff bags with sponsored logos but didn't recognize any one

What I liked about DF besides the course, was it is really a GOLF CLUB. No tennis courts, no swimming pool, a modest clubhouse. Seemed to have a good walking culture.

The course retains a classic feel, very subtle. The antithesis of the modern over-shaped, over-bunkered and over-ornamented courses.

And great greens - quick and true, not very contoured but subtle breaks due to the slope of the property.

Fun place to play but certainly with a premium on the accurate tee shot.

A good weekend at Longbow!

That's the "B" Flight. They finally dropped the reels on the mowers, perhaps for the Gateway event last weekend, but the greens had been relatively slower than normal all summer and now this weekend they were easily 2 ft faster. Along with some evil pins, made for some high numbers.

I also managed a Closest-To-The-Pin, which was good for an Adams A7 hybrid.

Played Papago today, and it was in pretty solid shape from tee to green. It was only my 2nd time playing there, but I can see that its a course I could grow to love. While there isn't an abundance of trouble off the tee, I think it'd be beneficial to play it with someone who has course knowledge to kind of identify the best lines off of the tee. Played at 12:09 for $13 with tax! Gotta love AZ summer golf.

Played the TPC Champions course on Sunday and it was in perfect condition. I think the green fees on golfnow were like 45 dollars or something. Pretty good deal.
