TPC Champions course

Looking for some information on this course.

 

Did they completely scrap the Desert course and build a brand new course (Champions) or is the Champions just a redesign of the Desert course?

 

How is the condition currently?

Redesign and addition to the old course you refer to. It is a great course, better than Stadium now IMO.

It is summer conditions now of course but still in good shape.

It is one of my favorites to play in the valley,,,usually great conditions and just a really fun layout.

It's a fun course. I, like many others, would play Champions over Stadium 9/10 times. And I happen to find all the private jets skimming your head on a few holes to be entertaining...

The Champions Course retains the same basic routing of the old layout but that's about it. Where the Desert course was about 6000 yards par 70 as I recall, the Champions plays to 7000+ from the tips and is considerably more of a test, with some stern bunkering and greens/surrounds. They did keep many of the specimen trees that had grown into maturity so it doesn't look like a new course.

While the Champions is a pretty good course, I sorta liked the Desert better. There are some holes that I haven't warmed to yet and I don't like #5 at all.

It does offer a very good value for residents and is typically kept in great shape.

I agree one of my favorite courses in town, The new layout is much better and provides much more of a challenge than the old desert course. Over all just a great mix of holes that build in a great choice of risk vs reward especially in #5 and the short par 4 #15. Definatley better than the stadium Course. Also one of the best deals for Scottsdale golf if walk it during the winter months.

Follow-up question - when playing the Champions course, do you check in at the Stadium course pro shop or does the Champions course have it's own pro shop and range?

I play there every Friday. Course is in pretty good shape now. Had I chimed in before this past Friday I would not have given the best marks. The course was is okay shape but the greens were not doing that well. Looks like the aeration a few weeks back has taken hold and the greens were in pretty good shape this week. They held very well and have gotten some of their speed back.

If you are walking make sure you get the <$50 rate. Best golf deal in town for visitors. Just ask for it 'cause its not stated anywhere.

It is great course and one of my favorute. Do not miss fairway.
