I have tried the KBS Tour and KBS Tour 90 and the AWT, all in regular flex, and find the AWT plays softer, has a smoother feel and tends to hit the ball slightly higher. The AWT is much better suited for my smooth tempo swing.

+1 I have a set of I15's with AWT Reg. Love these shafts. I also have a smooth tempo swing. Best set of irons I have every had.

I am a high swing speed digger and get tremendous benefit from playing stiff, heavy shafts. I am currently playing some Scratch SB-1s with KBS Tour x and they suit me perfectly. The KBS is a great shaft, and, like dgs, will likely suit a large number of players in the proper flex. With the rise in tour presence, it seems to be the "it" shaft right now.

Here is my take on the AWT. I had a set of I15s with AWT stiff - huge difference from what I am currently playing in terms of weight, flex profile, and stiffness. I LOVED hitting these irons in the 7-p. They were LONG, stable (even in stiff for me), consistent, and very easy on the body in comparison to tour weight, 130g shafts that tend to wear on you over the course of 18 holes. I was absolutely smitten with the set up, but the 6-3 irons simply did not hold up to my swing. My current 7 iron distance with the SB-1s is about 170, with the I15s I could max it out around 178. Problem is that the 4 iron would fly the same distance. Major spin and ballooning issues for me. The x-stiff would obviously been a better choice for me, and I would love to try them in that flex. Bottom line is that the AWT is a VERY good lightweight shaft, but the flighted profile can tend to get finicky and the long irons will tend to play light to flex as a result. For most, the AWT shafts will be a fantastic choice. IMO, the AWT will play like a very slightly stouter version of a Flighted Rifle 5.0. Most people don't consider this shaft choice due to ego and thinking that it is not "stiff" enough for them, but the fact is that the flighted profile in the 5.0 provides a very stable, lightweight shaft in the short irons and some very real help in elevating the long irons. The AWT will do the same. For the stronger player, however, there might be better options, including KBS Tour.

My suggestion would be to see if you could find a mizuno shaft optimizer and see what it tells you. It suggested KBS Tour x-stiff (softstepped) for me and the improved results after my switch have been undeniable. AWT is not an option on the optimizer, but the TF Rifles are. If the optimizer suggests KBS for you, then you have your answer. If it suggests Tf Rifles, then the AWTs are a better fit.

BCULAW - excellent post and advice - I am in the same boat as you with the KBS (softstepped) - I am interested in the I15s - if you had a choice would you go with the KBS softstepped in the I15s or the AWT X flex???

BCULAW, how would z-z65 compare to the KBS or AWT stiff?

I too am thinking some new i15s. I have hit the z-z65 in the green dot i15 head from the cart and liked it, maybe better than the AWT stiff.

I like and currently play DGS300, but like you said, they can get heavy toward the end of the round. The AWTstiff felt nice too, but I get the ballooning loss of distance in the long irons.

I hit the Adams CB1 with Project x 6.0 and they felt really good, and were LONG, I wonder how project X would feel in the i15?

+1 on all of the above. Although I haven't played KBS, I agree full heartedly with the description of the AWT shaft. I don't swing as hard as BCULAW obviously as my 7 iron is generally my 160 or so iron, so the AWT stiff works for em. I only play up to the 5 iron in my set, and for my swing speed I don't find I over power the shaft at all. The AWT produces a nice high ball flight, feels really pure when you strike the ball well, and gets the longer irons elevated nicely.
