Stratton's WITB ~Red White & PING~ **NEW UPDATE VIDEO PAGE 18**

Recommended Posts

Following this last event, Stratton's goals are taking shape. Checked off his first win in a college event, still within reach now is his goal of finishing under par for the season. He got his stats back to even par now through 18 tournament rounds this year. Here are the stats as of today:

team/indv. statistics

http://sidearm.sites...ats.pdf?id=9226

It's interesting when looking at the stats. Stratton has the lowest average and has some great overall finishes. I know this can be misleading depending on the tournaments you're at (conditions and such). Sure seems like he should be playing #1 or 2 for the season...

plus, he is going to finish this year with a 4.0 gpa majoring in Finance with no electives this year, all business classes, BUT

He is not tall enough......... LOL

As a fellow business major, that is the most impressive thing. Congrats to you both!

This is so weird because just a few days ago, I'm thinking to myself, "I wonder what that kid's up to that had all the tricked out PING gear from WRX." And two days ago I randomly saw this thread pop up. I was a sophomore in college the last time I saw the thread, over 4 years ago. This is an awesome story. Congrats to Stratton!

He will graduate next year, but will have one more year of eligibility which he intends to play and work on his mba.

is he going to try and go pro after school for a bit, or straight into the work force?

Does he actually get held back because of his height? I am not tall myself (5'8) just curious if Stratton's height has actually held him back from playing. I understand he has no issues with it personally and obviously doesn't affect his game, but do others comment on it?

Just trying to learn how to putt.

I will just kindly put it like this......IF you are 6'+ tall and bomb it, you get looked at differently. If your scores in practice are not that different the bigger stronger longer hitter, in some places, you may not get the same benefit and nod to start. I could rant about this entire ordeal, but chose to just look forward and help keep Stratton doing the same. Stratton is not really distance-wise that different from Beau Hossler or any of the other players he was paired against last week. I got to spend a whole day walking and talking to Fred Funk on day 1 and he is no giant and has done pretty well as a professional. jrgolfer37, make up for any physical liabilities with greater mental abilities.

Right now he has a PING combo-type set. He has four wedges and chooses which two or three to bag depending on the layout.

Breck, from what I seen and read you have always let Stratton march to the beat of his own drummer. Probably why he has that intangible attribute called pluck or grit . . . perseverance in the face of difficulties. You and he have it in great quantity!!

Austin is spreading out so fast . . . the folks in Liberty Hill (Edel) probably chafe a bit as a "burb. LOL.

I saw Stratton play at the Texas State Am at Brook Hollow. You caddied for him. What a team you guys are. Everything you guys did was so positive and encouraging. I remember Stratton missing the green in two on a par 5 and as he was walking up to look at the situation, he turned to you and said, "look at this, it's perfect!". Such confidence just from being himself.

He's been rollintharock pretty good and his aim is great, so Edel probably would just be another putter to him. I've had two of them, and it's the feel and weight and roll that's important. Heck, you could tie a piece of limestone to an oak branch and he'd be comfortable.

Anyway, this is a great thread to read and I'm happy for you and Stratton!

For us vertically challenged, it is an inevitable conversation. Whatever the profession, you have to prove yourself and Stratton is doing just that.

Understandable, Deerslayer just made the comment that he was too short implying that was a reason he was not playing. I was just curious. Part of the reason I love golf so much is that size doesn't matter, you can be big or small and still compete on the same level as others.

He had to withdraw from the Southern because of schedule conflict with the Trans-Miss. Good news day before yesterday came as Stratton's last grade was posted and he made another 4.0 this semester which now he will make the Presidents list for completing both semesters this year with a 4.0gpa majoring in Finance.

OSU had four First-Team All-Big XII (Stratton, Niebrugge, Jelley, and Ventura) and the Big XII Newcomer of the Year (Bauchou).

Ventura came up to Kansas for the US Open Local Qualifer yesterday and shot the course record at Wichita Country Club (62), site of last years Kansas Amateur. Next closest was a 66 and 69 got through. Having played that course during the Am, and knowing how crazy they probably got the rough and greens, 62 is insane! For perspective, Sam Stevens (another OSU golfer) grew up on the course. He shot 65-66 during the Am last year. He shot +1 yesterday.

THESE GUYS ARE GOOD.

He is playing at Oakland Hills? I will have to see if I can get out there that weekend and follow him around. Great course there, should be fun.

Was at Karsten Creek yesterday and saw his mural now on the wall right outside the locker room under all the previous Big 12 individual Champions. How cool is it to forever be on that list of great players!!! Another congrats to Stratton for everything he has accomplished.

Pingman33 was it the real one yet? It was great because when they traveled back from the Big 12 Championship, the head pro at Karsten had made a full size print/cutout of Stratton and had it stuck on the the column when they walked in :) That was a goal of his is to be on the wall multiple places before he is finished playing at oSu. Still one of my favorite pics of Stratton Planning in the hall.

Deerslayer,

I was able to see Stratton hit a couple shots out at Baron Creek while watching my son play. They were on complete opposite ends of the course the only day I was able to watch! Hard to miss all the orange even from a distance!

I will look you up at the Trans Miss tourney if you are making the trip as my son will be playing there as well. Looking forward to seeing the Olympic Club. And hopefully at the Western also!

Did Stratton ever consider playing the North South as well?

Definitely will make the trip to Olympic. Looking forward to that one this year. We will see you and Brandon there! The North/South is always in a tight spot on his schedule. Between the Texas Amateur an a local event he always likes playing in here in ATX. The summer, try to get a few gaps between events so he can work on his swing and incorporate any club changes.

Deerslayer, it was still a temporary one but it was in full color. It's pretty cool what oSu does with their wall of fame and what Stratton accomplished got him the larger picture in color! I believe the only thing left to do is get the full body shot on the wall inside the locker room by winning the national championship, which Stratton will probably do since he has so much time left at oSu. Looking forward to following him and seeing some more pics of the bag whenever you get the chance.
