DS has probably been busy and it was a tough year for Stratton with the injury. I am sure there will be updates when he feels there is something for us to know.

Weather was good this afternoon and I got off work soon enough for Stratton and I to set up and photograph his WITB set. We rigged fishing line to hold his clubs up for the one exploded shot. Easy to get rid of in PS, but a pain in the rear to get set up!

  • 3 weeks later...

IT HAS BEEN A LOOOOOONG time since I have been on here! Everything is going well. My workload at work has almost doubled so I have little free time. Stratton is back home for the Summer. He spent a couple of weeks working the Cowboy Golf Camp and had a blast. His summer schedule this year was pared back compared to what we did last summer. His first event was Texas Amateur this summer. He was awarded the Texas Golf Association Player of the Year at the Players Dinner for his play in 2014. He received this beautiful solid bronze of Bobby Jones. The Texas Amateur was delayed and shortened due to rain. I was looping for Stratton and every time he would begin the rounds well, move into the top five, looking like he was going to challenge and had some basic miscues that cost him dearly. He played too well to score like he did but only managed T14 out of the field of 145 players.

POY2014_zpstbwbnhv5.jpg

Next up is the Firecracker Open here in Austin beginning Friday. Follows that with The Oklahoma Amateur and his US Amateur qualifier. We will once again take off the end of July to fish Colorado. His bag has changed quite a bit since I was last on here. He plays a Combo type set of Irons.

I did custom stamping on his wedges. Here is his 60* that I did an EXTREME PEEN finish. Steady hands and a lot a patience and PRAY I make don't mis-strike on the logo I lay out :stop:

He is out seeing his swing coach at the Escondido Golf Club in Horseshoe Bay this afternoon. I will get some pics of his bag as I will be looping again this weekend for him.

It's Always a pleasure Deer Slayer. I am glad all is going well for you and Stratton. Enjoy Colorado The fishing has been hit or miss lately the waters are as high as I have seen them due to the wet spring and late snow pack. We got into some nice fish on the blue a couple weeks ago over father's day weekend and hope to get on a private stretch of the Gunnison this weekend towards the head waters, beautiful scenery and quality fish.

Good to see you posting again DS! That wedge is beautiful. Good luck to Stratton on the rest of his events this summer and enjoy the fishing and time together.

Mtngolfer1, we fish the Creede area. We have quite a bit of private area to fish and we do a couple of long day trips in the back country. The nice thing is, even if the waters are too murky, there, we have 4 really good lakes on the ranch to fish. Last year with the fires, quite a few of the streams we usually fish were not fish-able.

I got the idea on the wedge from Dave @ MACHINE. I have always loved his hand peened putters. I messed around with a couple of wedge heads I had and got a good feel for it. I masked off the oSu logo on the new TVD head and bead blasted the back of the head. Once the mask is removed, the oSu still has the nice brushed finish and the area that had been bead blasted I begin peening with a steel punch that I rounded off. It actually goes a LOT faster than you think. This entire head took me about an hour to peen.

Fantastic job on the wedge! Very creative!

I have been up in the Creede are a few times with family in the past. Beautiful area and good trout fishing.

Duncan8190, Loved Bent Tree as the host course. Even with the deluge of rain that pushed the event back and shortened it, the course was perfect. 15 has significant damage at the creek, but it just toughens that hole up even more. That hole is 4iron off the tee 4iron to the green with no other viable choices. It was unreal how the course held its own to scoring. It played easier than last years Brook Hollow, but scores were not lower. The winner shot 29 on the back 9 the last day to finish were he did. He deserved to win the event with that 9. The very basics killed Stratton in this event. He was 3 under the last day going out on our 6th hole, he is 18' from the pin under the hole 2' off the green. He is thinking birdie make the chip and gets too aggressive chips it past 3' uphill from the hole. Lips out his par putt that picks up speed to stop 5' down of the hole. Lips that one and we walk off the green with double....what just happened? Whole tournament seemed to go that way for him. We thought going in it would take 12 to win it as a 3 day event. 8 ended up winning it to our surprise. Stratton played Bent Tree a few years ago in an event so we knew a lot going in about the course.

Few other pics of interest since I last posted. Stratton and his team played in Augusta during Masters week. The team attended the Monday practice. I was there to watch the college event, but had to fly back that Monday for work. Stratton said Augusta National was all that it was cracked up to be and then some. He bought some serious Masters swag while there and took some pics.
