There is no "best." There is what works best for you.

I personally would rank:

Mills, RJB, Scotty, Byron, all on the same level.

Ping. They've slipped in recent years but when you still see 20+ year old Ansers and B-60's in tour bags, well, if a $60 retail putter can win the U.S. Open......

I really hate to sound like I'm just piping out the company line, but I agree with this 100%. I have custom and/or tour putters from 3/4 of these makers (Scotty, if you're reading this, feel free to hook a brother up for a perfect quadrafecta :fool: ). I can't begrudge anyone for what they play, for the life of me can't understand why some people do.

I do, however, think it speaks volumes to my club expertise that I added each maker's putters to my collection before they became sponsors to Golfwrx :drinks: It's either that or Golfwrx's ability to attract great sponsors for it's members. Either way, I'm happy with what has become a decent-ish putter collection (if not my putting ability).

However, to round out the top 5, I'll add Ping. Not so much for their plastic/rubber inserted putters (isopur to G5, though many seem to like the Craz-E), but for their earlier contributions in putter design and use of alternative metals, the JAS line, and the potential of the Redwood series in the high-end market.

:hi:

I'll go with what the majority of responses have been and just add a couple of observations.

Slighter, Byron Morgan, Mills and Cameron all see to me to be the guys who are following their passions. I have spoken a few times with Tom and Byron and it is crystal clear that it isn't a "money game" with them, but a love for what they do that really sets them apart. Having learned a fair amount about Scotty, from excellent sources, his devotion to creating putters that are second to none makes himstand out, as well. David Mills has a legacy that was started by a love for the putter that his father had and he is doing an excellent job of "carrying the torch", so to speak.

I don't think that there is one putter company that will make you an all-star, overnight. The quality in today's putters is excellent, across the board. Look at Guerin Rife's new line-up, WOW. Heritage Golf put out some pretty nice looking flatsticks that got rave reviews from purchasers, for sure. Will they start producing more, time will tell. Guage Designs is a quality product, again. I am leaving alot of people out, but you kind of get where my opinion is going.

No king of the hill, here. If you like milled putters, you have several to choose from, all quality. Cast putter with inserts, also plenty of makers.

Right now is one of the most exciting times for making a putter choice, I think. I remember, all too well, when the biggest choice was Bullseye VS Spalding VS Ping. It is a bumper crop of putter makers we are seeing, enjoy it and choose wisely....................or do what I do, buy used and buy a whole room full of stuff. It definitely keeps the game interesting.

Thanks for the soapbox,

LaMont in AZ

I can only rate what I've played

Quality:

1. Scotty (Laguna 2.5)

2. Bettinardi

3. Odyssey (DFX 550)

Flashiness:

1. Bettinardi

2. Scotty (EXPENSIVE aftermarket Flourescent grips and paint fills from the Studio don't count)

3. Odyssey

Collectiability:

1. Scotty

I don't see how a BHB-11 or any 2 ball could be a collectors item

I also can't believe that YES! hasn't been mentioned. After going through about every model Cameron had made from 1996 to 2005 I finally tried a YES! and haven't had to try anythign else. It is in fact that awesome. As for collectibility there are certainly better options, but for playing the YES! is up there as the best.

I think you'd be surprised at the market for Tour and Limited Bettinardi putters. Obviously, the Hogan and Mizunos aren't collector's pieces, but have you heard of D.A.S.S., the 38 Special, the 44 Magnum, "This Dog Will Hunt", or Dreamweaver putters. Bettinardi putters are the number one selling putters in Japan, and the special Bettinardi putters are worth every bit as much as Tour SC's.
