Well let me be the frist to speak up here. I'm from Dayton and I was a member at Walnut Grove CC and although I think WGCC is a nice track, it's not the "best" Dayton has to offer. I would have to say that the "Best" in Dayton is NCR CC and it's next door neighbor, Moraine CC. I am really surprised to see Shaker Run on that list, I don't believe it should be there because I can think of at least a dozen courses I'd rather play than Shaker Run. It was in terrible condition in 2010.

I'm from Columbus...Safari is horrible & I'm surprised Glen Ross made the list at all. Longaberger should be higher & Cooks Creek, Darby Creek & Foxfire Players Club (IMO) should all be on the list.

I've never been to Safari, and I agree those should be on the list.

Since they're doing the top public & private, Pinnacle in Grove City is a nice track. It's across the street from my house, but I've never had the chance to play it. Turns out I don't make enough money to live in the neighborhood & golf there.

I've never been there, but I have heard of it.

I'm surprised the New Albany Country Club or The Golf Club in New Albany aren't on the list.

The links at Firestone Farms should not be on this list at all. The course is a fun course to play but the greens are in terrible condition with many unrepaired ball marks and bare spots in the fairways and on the greens. It is probably a top ten course in the Mahoning Valley but not the state of Ohio. Youngstown CC, Tippecanoe CC and Yankee Run are all nicer than Firestone Farms and more enjoyable to play.

damn, I've played more of these than I would've though.

The Quarry--in my hometown, great course.
Scarlet Course--my current home course, great course.
Firestone South--took lessons there in high school, played the South a few times. obviously a great course.
Glen Ross--played it twice, surprised its on here and so high.
Double Eagle--great course.
Safari--whaaaat?!
New Albany Links--5 minutes from my work, pretty good course.
Longaberger--great course.

From Metroparks email newsletter:

In the March 11 edition, GolfWeek magazine released their "Best Courses You Can
Play." And, among the public courses in Ohio, Cleveland Metroparks Sleepy Hollow
Golf Course ranked #4 in the State of Ohio and was one of only two "classic" courses
on the list. This marks the first time Sleepy Hollow has been recognized by the
magazine.

I was curious about golflink.com's criteria for ranking and found this:

"GolfLink's list of the Best Ohio Golf Courses details the top public and private golf courses in the state of Ohio. Although similar lists are often produced by various golf publications, those magazines tend to rate golf courses based soley on the subjective views and limited experience of a handful of their editors. The GolfLink list is calculated from a more objective range of factors, including the preferences of up to a million or more visitors to our site every month. This makes our Best Ohio Golf Courses list the definitive online guide to the top Ohio golf courses. "

Seems to basically be compiled votes from random anonymous internet website visitors. Which does not yield a very reliable list IMHO. I mean, Kensington, #1, really? THREE Brian Huntley courses in the top four? Can you say "stuff the ballot box?"

For comparison, I looked at the list for Arizona, a place I where I have more experience. What a joke.

At least the magazines have real panelists and a set of criteria for ranking and must actually visit the courses they are rating. I find the Golfweek lists somewhat more closely reflect my tastes.

That's a good point. Honestly, it's to the point where it's mainly base on opinions.

I do not use that site for course rankings. That list explains why. If you look at their top 100 courses or whatever their list is called, you will see several munis ranked in the top 25 or than some courses that EVERYONE agrees are the best. I check out the reviews every now and then, but their lists are just completely off base (because of the data that goes into them).

This list is insane. I work in Cleveland, and have worked in C-bus. I'm not sure who made this list, possibly someone who has only played 20 courses in Ohio. One of the best places to play, (and I have been on, or played everything on that list) is Canton Brookside. Amazing, probably best course in Ohio.
Yup someone is paying someone off for sure. Brookside is great. I have a couple good friends who are members so I get up there often enough. If you think you are a great putter you need to see how you stack up on their greens. They can humble the best of the best. I'm not going to get into some of the shenanigans on this list as it will turn into a book in no time.

Yea not a fan of this list whatsoever. How in the world is Scioto not on there? Canton Brookside, The Country Club, The Pepper Pike Club, Kirtland Country Club.

+1.

I'm from the Cleveland area. To list Manakiki as one of the top 20 courses in the state is a little bit out there, and it's not like I don't like the course. It's just not on the same level as a lot of the other courses mentioned. Just in the Cleveland area, outside of the private clubs that should be ranked far ahead of Manakiki (Canterbury, The Country Club, Pepper Pike, Kirtland, Barrington, Sand Ridge), there are a number of public courses that are far superior: Fowler's Mill, Stonewater, Little Mountain, Boulder Creek. I'm sure there are many others. Even as far as the local Metroparks courses, I would say that Sleepy Hollow is better than Manakiki.

Speaking of someone paying someone off,

What about the one that all the OSU athletics go to......The Players Club @ Tressel Creek I think it's called

Heard you can get on for free there if you trade in your Big Ten rings
Everyone thinks that internet access makes them a comedian.......

P.S. That list IS comical.
