best course in your state?

Recommended Posts

what do you think....
i am currently driving from Washington to North Carolina, and i pass signs publicizing golf courses all the time, but who is to know which ones are good.

So, if someone was to only get one round in your state, which course would you tell them to go to?

In washington, i'd say to go and play Bear Mountain Ranch in Lake Chelan, great shape, great weather, and great views.

Colonial Country Club, but I am biased.

We're blessed with many great courses here in Texas. Champions, Whispering Pines, Dallas National, Crown Colony, Barton Creek, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting have all received national acclaim on some level or another.

There are many other courses which aren't as highly acclaimed, but are great courses none the less. I read that there are over 1000 courses in Texas, but have no way of knowing if that is true. With the amount of land we have here, we can always add more!

very true, texas does have so many great courses. love crown colony in lufkin. plus there are so many hidden gems in texas; waterwood national, the cliffs at possum kingdom lake, texas star (little biased since i live by it, but an awesome track)

i'm gonna go with dallas national. i like fazio designs, and i like courses with elevation changes.

In Illinois probably Medinah or butler. I love them both. I think i've got to give the nod to Butler.

Illinois is another VERY tough state to judge. You've got the classics like Medinah, Butler, Chicago Golf, Olympia Fields and Shoreacres. Then there are so many new courses like Black Sheep and Rich Harvest there to challenge them.

Butler is one that I have never played (tough to swallow as I am living so close to it right now), but always wanted to. Everything that I have ever heard about it would put it near or at the top of the list.

Pebble Beach is the best course in CA and argueably the best public course in the nation. Cypress is probably better but I doubt I'll ever get to find out. :help:

I've played Sherwood Country Club which is where Tiger holds his personal tourney the Tiger Challenge. Its very nice, but its no Pebble.

I like Fazio courses as well and usually shoot low-scores (comparably) on them.

We are pretty blessed to have so many good courses in our area. My favorite public course in Texas has to be Sugar Tree. I think they could charge 3 times as much if they were located closer to town. That said, they may go private pretty shortly.

i like sugartree a lot too. reminds a lot bear creek with the dog legs, tree lined, and elevation changes. i think #12 can be confusing the first time if you don't play with someone who knows the hole. from the tips i didn't see the green and went at the practice green to the right and after hitting realized that wasn't right. tin cupped 18 as well (6 balls in the creek, 1 off the bridge for a spectacular 18 - i had an audiance by the third ball on the patio).

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
