2010 Big Break Champion

I was at an outing at her home course (Weatherwax, Middletown, OH). I saw the sign when I got there that it was her course, but didn't think much of it. After our round me and my group walked right by her, looked like she was headed out to play. Wow - can I just say, what a HOTTIE in real life?! I've always been partial to Sara Brown, but wow Carling looks great!

Indeed. I was rooting for her since I grew up there too, and she played at Ohio State. It was just kind of cool to see that she actually still plays there with her schedule.

Carling is pretty damn sexy. Friend of mine played with her ex in a tournament fairly recently. He said he wanted to ask him how she was....at golf. But he didn't have the stones to do it. Personally, I definitely would have asked.

Saw her at the Futures Tour stop at Capital Hills. Gerina is a hottie too, looks much better in person than on tv.

Carling always struck me as quite a looker and very genuine and personable. I was baffled at the rips in the Big Break thread last year.

Regardless, if you saw Carling on her home course last Sunday it's because she skipped the Futures Tour event last week. And it's not the first one she's bypassed this year.

I feel bad for Carling because she's had a very poor year, other than one high finish (T2). That's why she's missed events, searching for answers.

Awful numbers:

* Stroke average of 75.74, more than 2.5 shots above last year
* 1 round under par among 23
* Missed 9 cuts among 11
* Hitting only 52% of the greens

She's first on tour in putts per round (28.30), and a fairly healthy margin over #2 (28.65), but the rest of her game is such a mess it's not helping much. Sounds like plenty of chips and pitches after missed greens.

I think Carling made too many changes after 2010. She changed equipment, got fitted, and altered all her specs considerably. She switched to a new coach. She fired her agent. As a handicapper and golf matchup bettor I've seen that type of combo so often and it seldom works out, particularly in the short term. I posted that in regard to Carling many months ago on another major golf site. Recently Carling mentioned on twitter that she's working hard on her game with her dad instructing, so perhaps she's returned to her roots.

BTW, as someone else mentioned there are former Big Breakers with LPGA status playing the Futures event this week. Sara Brown and Gerina (Mendoza) Piller are entered. Obviously a warmup for LPGA Safeway next week. With so many majors stuffed in a small window recently there haven't been many opportunities for the mid to lower tier LPGA players.

Ryann O'Toole chose not to play this week. After the US Open she is #45 on the money list and cemented toward full LPGA status next year. Gerina should be fine. Sara has yet to make a cut so she needs a strong finish to avoid Q School. Sara does have good results on the LET, unlike Kim Welch who has had a lousy season and may be in jeopardy of returning to the Futures Tour next year. Last week Kim was among the LET leaders after round one with 68 then bombed to 79 to miss the cut by one.

2. It doesn't have to be a Tiger thread to mention that Tiger is an embarrassment as a person, in spite of his former past golf glory.
