Clearly Delta does not care about customer satisfaction. "Oh you can just rent a set." Please. I've flown them before and it's not like they give the best service on board. For the baggage guys to let that go on long enough for it to catch on fire and have this happens shows what a great staff they have and how deeply they care about their customers. I say all WRX'ers should boycott Delta.

I loved the post about the new Ebay listing, "Tour Issue, Callaway Tour Authentic X Prototpye- Delta grind" custom grind and finish exclusively for Lee janzen! Start the bidding at $2,000

since when does SW charge you $50 to fly with your clubs? I havent flown with my clubs since June but have done it on southwest more then 10 times and have never paid for my golf bag. not once.

All of you chomping at the bit to blame Delta need to do some reading. Lee Janzen says he believes it was the fault of the ground crew in Las Vegas, not Delta.

Only good thing is that he can have a full new set built and delivered at his beck and call.
Perhaps, but if he's gotten comfortable with those sticks and tour players are sensitive to the finest details, this could throw off his performance. Hope his adaptation energy is high.

True but Janzen gave his clubs to Delta and not the ground crew. Delta is responsible and their "you could rent" suggestion sounds like a company who is annoyed that Janzen is complaining rather than a company that wants to take care of its customers.

A tour player checks the tools of his trade with the skycap: that customer service rep needs to ensure his equipment makes it in tact to it's destination. A special tag - fragile, sensitive, etc. - something! The average duffer can fly around 100 times with their clubs with nary a scratch. Lee Janzen needs his equipment for the first fall PGA Tour event and the strangest thing happens?

Doesn't add up as a coincidence to me.

First and foremost, I weep the passing of these Callaway Prototype beloved clubs. And will be eulogizing them for Lee this Friday at 2 pm.

Now to Delta, I have a gut feeling it was intentional. They keep making news for all the wrong reasons.

Even if it wasn't intentional though, I have to agree with Janz, putting it on the carousel like nothing happened, might be worse than it happening in the first place. That goes beyond epitomizing failure to take responsibility.

I posted the story somewhere on this forum months ago, about Delta charging U.S soldiers returning from Afghanistan over $2800 in bag fees.

This company clearly doesn't get it.

Name the airline!!!!!!!!! Good thing he gets them for free.....

this would never happen if he flew private

I believe each airport has individual companies that handle luggage. Not an individual airline would e to blame but the luggage handling company.

We don't know if Janzen had yet identified himself as a professional golfer playing a tournament that week. Chances are he did not, since that's kind of a diva move. Since he was flying into Las Vegas, it's perfectly reasonable for the Delta agent to say, "Sorry your vacation has gotten off to such a rough start, but while we try to resolve this situation, you could rent clubs so as not to miss out on the golfing part of your trip."

In 2009, 208,000 domestic bag complaints were filed. That's 570 per day. We should actually be surprised this hasn't happened to a tour player before.

Delta's policy was to allow soldiers 3 checked bags for free, and each bag could be overweight 20 lbs. The soldiers violated this policy, so it's not unreasonable that the ticketing agent charged them for the extra bags. If soldiers need to check 4-5 bags all the time, then it's DHS's responsibility to negotiate for that allowance.

Subsequently, Delta amended their policy to permit 5 checked bags.

Those look like a grind job from BigSpitter's shop. :D
Let's not forget, the clubs are still TOUR ISSUE. Therefore, they are still worth at least twice as much as your brand new clubs from Golfsmith.
hahahahaha, that is hilarious. Of course we all know that simply having Tour Issued clubs in the bag will lower your handicap by 20 strokes and immediately make you a better person than anybody else on the course. I didn't know that Golfsmith sold Adams CC1's. Thanks for letting me know that. You must have spent a couple grand with that particular shop. Of course you also probably spent a ton for one of LRB's wedges with about the same amount of offset as Janzen's new wedge. Are BigSpitter and his boy wonder sidekick still hitting balls out of the desert off of towels?

Did Callaway buy the rights to the Cleveland VAS irons because that hosel looks very similar!!

On a serious note, a big wtf!!! How does that happen? It was dragged so long the bag caught fire? C'mon that was done on purpose.

its a wonder Fedex dont offer a service to the Players where they fly clubs to the next venue overnight Sunday.pick them up Monday lunchtime or later from a designated point.Fed ex could even have a temporary office at each venue.

I would ask my Sponsor for a new bag at each venue and ship my clubs in a secure box without the bag.

You sir just made a business plan for yourself. Official club shipper to the pro's.

Or at least do a test shipment first with his fiancees wedding dress, his prototype machine, and a map to the fountain of youth.
He should have shipped them via FedEx.

I am starting to think that this was all done on purpose. Baggage handlers hate handling heavy bags, and we all know that a full staff bag with clubs, shoes, rain gear, balls, etc. isn't exactly the lightest piece of luggage. I am also wondering if it happened at the departure airport. No real way of knowing though. Glad to see Janzen went on to qualify with the backup set.

I wonder how hard would it really be to get a box truck, pad it up, and install some bag racks. Then drive the bags to each stop. Of course, you do have the issue of players not playing in each stop. Also, a bit of a drive when you go from coast to coast. That is easily a 3-4 day drive.

Looks like he should have used FedEx to ship his clubs to the next tournament. Doesn't he watch TV commercials during PGA events?
i recently used fedex to ship my bag so i wouldn't have to check it in on the plane.. and fed ex friggin cracked my driver. the golf bag looked like it was beaten to hell.

+1

WN does not charge a fee just because they are golf clubs. The only time you would be charged is if the bag is over 50 pounds or oversized. Oversized would be over 62 inches.

From WN:

"The following items may be checked at no charge (unless a charge is specified), and will count toward the two-piece free baggage allowance for each fare-paying passenger. Overweight and/or oversize charges may apply."

"Golf clubs in a hooded or soft-sided golf bag are conditionally accepted. Golf clubs that are transported in a hard, plastic travel case should be tagged with a regular tag. Golf equipment includes golf clubs, golf balls, and golf shoes, contained in one bag.* Overweight charges may apply."

nice toe and trailing edge grind. bit messy but good first try :drinks:

The saddest part of all of this is the offset. If it weren't for that, I'd game 'em. Love the smokey finish, too - no glare!
