Airline trashes PGA Tour players clubs

Not many, if any Tour Players will use a hard case. Too bulky/difficult to travelwith and get into a rental car or courtesy car

One of the biggest problems with this country is that nobody wants to take responsibility for their actions anymore. The person, or people who did this probably thought, "Oh, his insurance will take care of it" and throw it on the carousel without thinking twice about it.

The fortunate thing here is that Janzen is with Callaway, and he got new clubs within hours. But, normal people don't have that luxury. Its piles of paperwork, and probably months before you get a check from your insurance company. scott c.

Odds are it was a Club Glove.

Even if it was a hard sided case, I don't think it would have offered any more protection. Did you see those clubs?

As far as I know, the only airline with a written policy regarding hard sided case is [url="http://www.theworldofgolf.com/travel.html"]DELTA[/url]. I've flown them all with my Club Glove, including Delta multiple times, and I've never had to sign a waiver.

This is from the Callaway Tour Blog. Apparently when Janzen told the airline this, they recommended he rent some clubs!! Hilarious!

As silly as it may sound he is lucky he wasn't arrested and taken into TSA or homeland security custody for possibly shipping combustable or explosives or suspicion of trying to blow the plane up.

Well I'm pretty sure someone who has made almost $2.2 million over the last 3 seasons and up until this point, this season, isn't TOO worried about money. It's not exactly economical to fly private, even if you have the means. It's roughly $3k/hour on most services and even more if you own your own jet. Just because someone chooses not to fly private, doesn't mean he's broke.

I had a customer come in the other day to replace the HARD CASE that delta had just destroyed. Lucky that his clubs survived, but the case had a large hole punched through the top and two of the three hinges were broken off.

Just returned from Palm Springs. The airlines managed to rip the top handle(used to pull the bag) right out of the hard case on one side, pulled the pop rivets right out of it. My wife's clubs were fine. She uses a Bag Boy HCX Hybrid TC bag. I have used a Club Glove Burstproof with Stiff Arm for the past 4 years and have never had a problem.

Assuming he was using a club glove Xl he's unlucky the top got trapped and dragged.

A tip to those using the stiff arm. You should tape your driver to the arm. Longest club always takes the brunt and should be fixed under the top cap otherwise its a lottery

I am still waiting for the custom tour issue clubs to show up in BST or the Bay! All you have to do is bend em back and those scratches will buff right out!!

Unbelievable! I've always been a lil skeptical when it comes to shipping my clubs. I've heard a few horror stories on how clubs are treated when they are shipped. Not sure I could handle my clubs being damaged like that.

All you need for travel is a soft case, plastic separating tubes, and if you have an adjustable driver, remove the head and stash it in your carry-on or checked luggage leaving the shaft in the bag. 5 years of national air travel and I have yet to have an incident with my clubs, knock on wood.

Funny this thread got brought back to life as I just returned from a golf trip to San Antonio (played where the Seniors just played and La Cantera...both fun). When I went to the bag claim to get my clubs in San Antonio they paged me over the intercom. The following is one of the reasons I love Southwest Airlines. As soon as I walked up, she said, "We're sorry, but we ruined your clubs. I know you signed a soft bag waiver, but since we dragged these behind the cart, we'll reimburse you for everything damaged. " I went through everything with her and she cut me a check on the spot. Luckily my tour satin CC1/MB1 combo iron set was fine. Not sure how they deal with stuff that really has no retail MSRP.

We used to drive to Cleveland to fly with them, now that they offer flights from Pittsburgh, I always check their schedules first.

I've flown bunches of times with my sticks on Southwest and I've never had to sign a waiver.

Going out of Hartford with Southwest - I didn't sign a waiver. Out of Orlando on Southwest - I had to sign a waiver. I've never had an issue with Southwest though.

I only use the airlines with my second or third set. Old clubs no one would want to mess with, but hey, with no real recourse available, it still is a crap shoot. I would rent clubs at courses but every time I do, they are almost always horrendous clubs for me, and you know, trying to putt with some wonky putter becomes mostly a bad joke. It just ain't like it used to be... ...that they can charge so much money for what they do is also near extortion.
