Thanksgiving thru following Wed.
Looking for recomendations in the PS area that week. Any "Must Plays?
I know it's primetime rates, but I don't want to pay more than $150 a round if I can help it.
Hope to get in 3 rounds while visiing with my folks.
Thanks

I really liked Escena when I was there last October. It has been nicely revamped since it went under and was bought over by a new crowd. Nicklaus design. I recall it not getting huge love here a while ago, but it was in great shape and reasonably priced.

PGA west TPC stadium course. Silver rock resort is a amazing track. desert willow and fire cliff. There are so many what do you like in a golf course and I can help you out from there. The courses I love will most likely make you want to quite golf lol
I'm sure we'll be playing Indian canyon South course. My mom loves it.
I think Silver Rock is another on the agenda.
I like any course that doesn't punish decent shots and you don't have to be "perfect" on. I'm an 8 index and My dad is about the same. He's 73 and still drives it 240-250 and hits 7i 145-150. I'm a little longer.
I don't much care for long forced carries.
I like Ted Robinson courses and other less "target" style tracts.

If you do a forum search, there are a variety of recommendations for this area, typically Desert Willow and Indian Wells are regularly at the top.

Be aware of the overseeding schedules, as some are still wrapping up just before Thanksgiving:

Thank you for the link.
That is an awesome resource and gives me a good idea of wher not to play.
Much appreciated.

Ok with that in mind you really need to play Firecliff or desert willow. PGA west stadium is a amazing course I would recommend playing it but it will leave you with two feelings of I never want to play golf again and when can I play this course again. Course is hard enough that the tour guys said if they ever have a tourney out there they are NOT showing up lol. The Classic Club is a must, true gem only issue is it is on the north side of the 10. Meaning it gets blasted with wind for the most part.

Looks like firecliff is going to be closed for overseeding.
I've head enough battle stories about PGA west that I'm not sure I want to abuse myself. I know the pro's hated it.
I know Nicklaus still takes alot of flak for that layout. It really caused him to soften some of his later designs.

So far we have Indian Canyon South and Silver Rock.
Think will look at Desert Willow Mountain course as a possible

With that said when I got to the desert I ALWAYS play STADIUM course. I love that damn thing, like I loved cog hill after the remake not really before. I think you should play it, everybody should play it once. If you go into it thinking I am going to shot high today and just have fun then no worries. I had to do that the first few times I played it until I learned it. Now I go out there and fire 73-77 from the tips and get made because I live shots on the course lol. It is a amazing layout!! Try classic club it is long from the tips like silver rock but I think they are both fair courses. One thing you must remember both courses play 77xx plus from the tips, when the tour is not that the fairways are not firm and the ball will not roll 50 yards in the fairway.

I will be down the same time and one of our favs is Eagle Falls in Indio at the Casino. Perfect for Mom and Dad and M-T is priced right.

I pretty much play were good Golf Now rates allows me to...problem is I do not finish a few rounds but I save enough that it is worth it. Indian Wells is a prime example of this, as I have played both for under $60 on a GN Twilight. The two Tera Logo Courses are OK, and I'll go to those if it is like $55 range on GN. I also played SRock for $75 on GN and would suggest it as there are many different tee to play from.

Once in a while there are some nice CC's on the list also at non twilight times that can be had. I forgot the names of a few of them, but will chime in once I remember with them.

I say this, because I have gotten emails from some courses offering me memberships.....worth a shot. Bermuda Dunes is on that comes to mind.

Try and stay on the right side of I-10 (driving from PS to Indio) as much as possible because of the wind. Ter Lago and Eagle falls are on that side, but the wind is not quite as bad as from PS down to PD.

I stay at Desert Falls and will play there a few times....nothing special at all, but I can get on anytime and it's fair priced as a quest. Mon and Tuesday following Thanksgiving, I will be a single or just a twosome so stay in touch.

One last sneaky suggestion......call a few places in advance and tell them that your Mom and Dad are looking to join a club down there and you would like to possibly play a practice round. Tons of smaller CC's that are hurting for memberships.

Thats bush-league in my opinion...many clubs in my area are actively seeking members and we have to take people's word when they say they are interested in joining so we let them play, often w a staff member, but they still get on...then you dont hear from them ever again.

Hey Bob,
I'll look at Desert Falls, my dad is looking at the Trilogy courses and I'm starting to think about Indian Wells also.
I will try to keep in touch and maybe we can get together for a round since we'll be there at the same time.
Mon and Tues are golf days for us as well.
