Razr X forged

talk to me about them....

was messing around with them a bit at golftown today. I was shocked at how they looked at address...much more generous than i would have thought. The topline is pretty thick for a true players club, and the blade length is respectable too. They seemed pretty easy to hit.

anyone have any experience with them? I haven't seen too many threads. I got the iron itch and i really want to get a new set this winter.

are they as forgiving as they look?

You noticed all the same things I notice every time I hit them in a simulator inside.

I wish a course I played would get a demo set so I can take them out on turf. Love them with the Project X shaft too. Smooth.

i currently play these clubs. if you've seen some of my previous posts, i'm someone that is frequently in-and-out of different sets of clubs. must say, these are the first irons that make me content. they look like a true players iron, yet there is so much forgiveness in these clubs. the feel (endo forging) is unlike any other club. i still sometimes hit these clubs and say "wow, these just feel amazing."

yes, the topline is a little bit thicker than other players irons in this category, but it doesn't bother me at all really. the soles are nice and thin and i'm telling you, the feel is just superb.

would highly recommend these irons.

Here's my take on them....

I love iron play. It's my favourite part of the game. At a 9-10 handicap, I say my worst strike in the game is driving. I am a good iron player, and love practicing shortgame.... But I've always loved a smaller looking club, and forgings always just seem to get a long better with me.

Now thanks to the GI carrot you dangled in front of me, I find I still have my prefences but now I am trying to work in as much forgiveness as possible.....

The X Forged ARE that forgiving. What doesn't make sense to me, is that even with weaker lofts I hit every bloody iron as far as my G15's. I swear this to be true... even in long irons... like my 4 iron distance is about 205 on average and it was the same with both models.

The Callaway rep really wanted me to play them... I said 'no'. I said I am sticking to my G15's... he tried telling me I shouldn't be using GI's because of my swing, etc.... and I just kind of looked at him like... here comes the big sales pitch. I simply told him I wasn't interested....

Then he puts the Razr X Tour cast club in my hands... man that's a good club too.

Fast forward a week... a pro at the club insists I take his Razr X forged out for a round... I shoot a 79. My best play? Iron play.

These things are really pleasing feel wise, but they don't punish you like most clubs in that category.... why do you think I haven't been back to Mizuno? Callaway has actually blown me away with their current iron run..... I absolutely despise the look of all of them (except the Razr X forged) but who cares, right?

I have to confess though.. in the end I chickened out. I knew I wanted to go to a softer metal... a forging... I went with Callaway Diablo Forged. The shaft is surprisingly good... the head is certainly a little fatter (not longer though) but not G15 fat....

I find the Diablo is about as much compromise with feel that I want, but I am confident enough with them that I can really, really go after the 4 iron. In fact, I'm still considering putting the 3iron in play since on the range I seem to hit it better than my Titleist 910H.

Anyway.... sorry for the long answer, but that's about as honest as I can be.

In truth, if I saw Razr X forged on sale.. I'd buy them in a heartbeat... loved them in Project X 5.5. But the G15's kind of make a chicken out of me.... or perhaps wiser? Not sure yet. Anyway the Diablo forged is what won me over. Thankfully they were on sale because these things are like a million dollars in Canada.

They are very forgiving and have a nice thin sole. I played my best golf with them and then stupidly went the SGI route with the Ansers and hated them. Give in, they are as good as anything out there.

haha that callaway shock collar you wear buzzes you everytime you flush one with the g15s.

i used a play a combo set with the diablo forged and i would recommend those, but i don't think they are offered in lefty.

i really like the look of those Razr X-Tours. I like the thing callaway is doing with the sole where you get the advantages of a wide soled iron, but since the back 1/3 of the sole is recessed you get the versatility of a thinner soled iron.

i actually went back to golftown today and hit the Razr X tours aswell. They are discounted now and i can get the X100's at no upcharge. I'm going to order a set after the season just not sure which yet. I agree the X tours look really nice. And with those i can get 4-A which i can't with the Forged

They are very good. The assistant pro at the club where I work part time has them with a combo set of Razr X Tour (3,4,5, forged 6-pw) and he loves them, they're great. I've hit them a few times and think they're really good, don't worry about the topline, it isn't too big a difference.
