Wigwam course recommendation

School's out and it's about time to start hitting the course again. I've noticed the Wigwam has been offering very reasonable rates on GolfHub. Any recommendations on which course to hit up out there first?

Gold is the best course but it is a big long beast of a golf course. The red is shorter and easier but its a fun course and a good layout.

I haven't played there in years. In factv they've renovated the courses since I was there. I liked the Gold best. The Wigwam resort is a nice place to stay too.

At one time, the Wigwam was the leader in resort golf in the Phoenix area. While that may have changed during the golf course boom of the 90's, the Wigwam still offers a good golf experience, with a bit of throwback to the traditional parkland style.

The Gold and Blue (now called the Patriot), courses are Robert Trent Jones Sr. designs that were opened in the mid-60's. The Gold being the championship track, as Thrill mentioned, a big and brawny course that featured many of the trademarks of RTJ: runway tees, long par 5s, big bunkers, large greens... The Blue course was the shorter and "sportier" resort course.

Both of the original courses received a renovation by Forest Richardson in 2004.

The Heritage Course was added in the mid-70's, originally called the West course, later named the Red Course to honor its designer Red Lawrence.

If playing a single round, I would recommend the Gold Course as the first choice. Second would be the Heritage followed by the Patriot.

Up to this year we've visited Wigwam twice a year on the way to family.- Gold is the best of the lot. The other two are wide open real easy tracks. That won't be happening any longer. One of the things that bothers me about Wigwam is they have shot gun starts, sometimes two times per day when busy. The course quality just isn't worth all the people.

Not too far from Wigwam; in Goodyear, south of the 10, about 5 miles there's a hidden Jack Nicklaus gem called The Golf Club at Estrella (623) 386-2600 surrounded by beauty. Great practice range too. Its far superior beautiful course for serious golfers. Requires target shot making skills, testy tee placement shots, fast good size undulated greens, and not to mention surprisingly reason price.

Thanks for the tips. I'll save the Red course for playing with the guys and take my gf to one of the other courses.

Make sure you also spring for your GF's trip to the spa ;-) As everyone said, the Gold course is the one to hit up. My best friend is a member there. I'm hitting it up this coming weekend (hopefully a couple of rounds). Either way, you can't go wrong with that place!

Concur with the others. Gold is the best of the Wigwam courses.

It's a good test and is a parkland course. If you're hoping for true desert golf, this isn't it. But the golf course is quite good.

Didn't play there on my most recent trip to PHX so I can't comment on conditions, but it is usually pretty good.
