Can this Cameron be refinished?

Hey everyone,
I had the opportunity to buy a Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 from a buddy for only $55. Reason for it being so cheap was a large scratch on the inset. I rolled a good amount of putts with it, and the roll of the ball doesn't seem to be affected by it. At some point I would really like to have it refinished though. My question is does anyone think this thing can even be refinished? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I would think you would have to go to Slighter, BOS or one of the other aftermarket refinishing services.

The pics are a bit blurry but it looks kind of deep. Should be able to be fixed though. Like bdgregor mentioned, look into some aftermarket work from Slighter or LaMont Mann. Contact them, send them pics and I'm sure someone will help you out. With that amount of material being removed from the head, the weight will be less no doubt. Just taking a guess here, but I don't see the custom shop touching this, based on seeing some pics of other putters they've turned down.

Is it an actual scratch on the insert? It's tough to tell from the pics. The ding on the leading edge looks pretty deep though... You can always send them pics and ask them if they think they would take it.

Its too deep for the CS to deal with,looks like you will have to try other aftermarket refinishers.

If you are skilled I would imagine you could do that yourself. If you remove the insert it will be much easier to deal with. The leading edge may be tricky depending on the depth, but you should be able to file or sand it out. Just remember that you'll lose a bit of weight from all the sanding to remove it. Even at $55, if you need to send it to an aftermarket place it wasn't a good deal.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Haven't quite decided what I am going to do yet. I asked him how it happened but he says he doesn't remember (Likely story....) . Thanks again for all the opinions! Brad

I'd send it to LaMont Mann and have him create a new insert out of copper or Damascus for it.

Why bother restoring it? Have some fun with it!
