My SliceFixer Swing Project

Recommended Posts

Progress Thread w/ videos
Ok. After many different methods and instructions from many different sources, I finally decided I am going to drop everything I know/learned and focus my golf swing progress using SliceFixer method. I have been a big fan of hogan and slicefixer swing seems to help teach that style. The project starts NOW! Here is my current swing:

im still at the beginning stages so can't driver just yet. i am still focusing on the most important parts such as the grip and setup. so tomorrow, im going to be doing wedges for a while. maybe in a few weeks i can move onto a driver. stay tuned. im jealous you can actually go locally there to see geoff himself. good for you. im sure it will change your game.

Just my two cents, but it looks like you are trying to manually drop your hands behind yourself. Don't do that, it looks like you are engraining a habit of swining in to out. Swinging left for someone who never done it before, may actually feel a bit over the top. But for not seeing Geoff, it don't look bad at all.

It could also be the hipstall as described above. don't do that either. Keep them rotating.

First off it is getting there you have made good progress into learning the various components and getting a feel for the swing.

I did see a couple things that I wanted to comment on to help you understand it a little more, because there were a couple places it was just off slightly.
1) You hands and right elbow should drop into place more naturally with the turning of the hips, if you turn your hips this turns your shoulders with it from the top and forces you to get into that position.
--> This will come from practice and getting to know the drills in the full swing, I don't want to get real technical because its a freaky thing to talk about "weight transfer" with people they normally over exaggerate ti.

2) It sort of appears that you are taking the club away too far inside the line at the 7 o'clock position (where your hands at at your waste in the down the line video) that club should be pointed straight down the target line.
--> here is a video i posted earlier in a different thread on the take away this gives two good solid angles of what it looks like, the down the line is the better angle ~ www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n5ztQ_7qvY

Finally took some vids today at the range. i need to work on my setup angles (spine tilt) and body rotation release. Any inputs/tips/suggestions/drills would be great. Thanks guys. Here are the vids.

need to exaggerate the left hip staying in place more. it's still breaking down and swaying to your right. put a shaft or alignment stick in the ground that points up and touches your hip at address and use it as a reference point until you can take half and full swings without swaying off it.

look at the second to last video.... (back view). at setup, you can see trees and a putting green left of your hip. at 6 seconds (top of your swing), you see half a house and a garage door.

TFISH- I see exactly what your saying. I need to work on my setup angles in order to not lose my spine angle and keep left hip at same spot. will work on that and put up vids in a week. keep posted guys.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I want to master this thing =)

Looks great. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Worked on my setup angles today and clearing space with my right hip as well as keeping left hip in the same spot. Made improvements and need to get used to it. Should get better progressively. Next to work on is arms in synch with body as well as connected release. I still see my arms overswinging at the top and I still have a "rolling" type release. Right now Im hitting tight nice little draws and my misses are ridiculous hooks due to the release.

worked some more today. just focusing on easy and smooth wedge shots to ingrain the motion of the swing and a connected release. not 9 to 3 but you get the idea. hope i'm going the right direction with my progress. here you go.

my misses are still to the left. not as extreme as a wild hook but just the ball drawing more left than i want. about a good 5-10yards too much. any ideas?

left hip is still swaying right in the last videos. ones before last were better.

i think your takeaway is too handsy, rolling, inside and the shoulder turn is too flat. i'd work on keeping it more one piece with the shoulders being pretty much the only thing that's moving until halfway back....clubhead stays outside, left shoulder under chin, hands go in towards right pocket more initially with no rotation whatsoever.

then i'd start doing work with martin chucks pro impact drill and the punisher drill to try to get your hands to be less flippy/crossover through impact.

as far as the hip sway, i know i got some more work to do. i can hold the brace on the right leg better. but i don't get what you mean as far as it being handsy at takeaway and flippy through impact. honestly, after i setup, all i do is rotate my right shoulder at takeaway and let everything follow. same goes for downswing. my arms and hands to clubs are dead feeling to when i do these swings. so i don't really know what else i can do to make them more less "handsy". let me know if you have any suggestions. thanks

it may feel that way, but it doesn't mean it's actually occurring.

in your DTL video, look at where the club is pointing at 9o'clock (parallel to the ground) in the takeaway. it's somewhere out to right field.
compared to modern, pro swings...or SF students where you see something more like this...
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=NBUwIVC4BI4 where the club either pointing straight down the line, or actually in to the body since it's an incline plane and there's been no roll of the hands or cocking of the wrists early in the swing.

and then as far as being flipping in impact, you can look at your face on view....and see in the frame of impact and the one or two after the club is pointing at your belly button or a hair to the cameras right of it. with nearly all great ballstrikers, and all SF students, you'll see that an extension of the shaft would point to their left hip. basically they have a lot more forward shaft lean at impact....leading to a better, more compressed and more consistent strike of the ball. ie. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=g0puYS1umBM

or another way to look at is, is comparing the DTL view of your full swing to that of the first link (mahan dtl). your hands flip and the club passes over so that the clubhead is obscured by your body at about 9 o'clock in the release while you can still see your hands. if you look at mahan....his hands turn with his core, there's no release....and his hands actually disappear before the clubhead does, because it's simply continuing around square to the plane of the swing with no active release.

like i said in the previous post, the pro impact drill and punisher drills are good to practice a lot.
and the pistol grip drill is also a good one if it's your right hand that's pushing the club through impact instead of letting your core the natural rotation release the club to the ball.

tfish- i see what you're saying with the improvement on getting more shaft lean on the club. ill work on some punisher drills for sure to get more compression on the ball. as far as takeaway, i think it might be the angle of the camera. the dtl video where the club is pointing somewhere right at 9 o'clock, the ball went right. i gotta get a better angle of dtl of my current swing. keep posted and time to work. thanks for the help.

i think i made a breakthrough progress today. I felt like I have been stuck doing the same thing for a while and of course getting the same results. coiling, leverage, and impact position is much better. im very excited!! still got lots of work to do though. just happy i made some kind of move forward=)

Progress update:

Grip to posture to setup is good now. After a few weeks, I feel that I don't think about these anymore. They are natural to me now. Currently getting used to backswing pivot. Need to get that down to perfect where its no longer a swing thought. I''ll be working on that for another week. I hit nice draws when I do pivot "creating space" and transition correctly. My current misses are push or slice right when I don't pivot deep or don't transition correctly with my left side. I'm not worried to much about transition at the moment until my backswing is perfected. Keep posted guys. Thanks for your interest. Will report in a week.

face on view looks miles better than it has before. left hips not swaying backwards, and your creating nice forward shaft lean through impact without flipping it over.

from DTL, your first move in the takeaway is still problematic though....and sets up everything to be too steep on the downswing.

your lifting your hands up and away from your body instead of naturally having them rotated by the shoulders. quick picture to illustrate the point. green line was your hands at address...and at 8'oclock, your hands are outside that line.

compare to....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaZwJ4FV6cc
where the clubhead stays outside, while the hands still work in and around more. you're doing it differently in the march videos where your hands aren't lifting, but the clubhead is going in too fast.....so i'm guessing its something you worked on, in terms of keeping the clubhead more outside. but it's one of those things where feel isn't real, and your feeling of simply keeping the clubhead outside your hands more actually ends up with your hands lifting away from your body too much. gotta work with the camera and video until you find that right balance and get the feeling of the correct positions.

keep it up.

ok. i worked more on my backswing today and i think i made another great progress=). worked on keep clubs outside without picking/lifting up arms. let me know what you guys think. a step closer to getting this swing down. transition will be worked on soon.

hands could still come inside more, and don't be afraid to open the clubface around ~8oclock. albeit with practicing drills and trying to ingrain different stuff it's good to exaggerate. because when you stop thinking about it so much, you'll probably find some middle ground.

i think you're getting close. way better than any previous videos i've seen. nice hip coil, staying in your posture better. clubs not flipping over so early

keep working on that takeaway and some impact drills (punisher, pro impact drill) to get the hands further forward.

and in regards to impact....i think you have a tendency to get a little vertical with the spine (both at address in in the swing), and you also let your right arm get a little bent and locked in at the side of your ribcage and you end up blocking yourself out and getting the club steep and having to throw away the leverage early. from the face-on perspective you do a better job of both things in the 4/27/12 video, with more spine tilt and the right arm staying in front of you....and the result is a much better impact position. if you can combine that with that better takeaway, then i think you'll really be on the right track. (seems backwards, but it works. you can take your hands more in, while still keeping the right elbow in front of your body)

tfish. I know exactly what you are saying. I was thinking the same thing. I guess I was just focusing on the takeaway that i lost focus on what i was working on 04/27. I like the connection on 4/27 which results in a better impact position. So tomorrow, Im going to exaggerate the takeaway a bit more as well as combine it with the connection and right elbow folding better keeping it in front of body. Im getting close. I feel it. By this week, I know I'll understand it better and have the grip to backswing down. Then next week, its transition time=) Thanks and keep posted coz I truly appreciate the feedback and help on here so I can get closer to getting it right .

Tomorrow's practice goals:

-takeaway hands inside more. EXAGGERATE
-let right elbow fold earlier and closer to body in order to keep it in front

will report with vids tomorrow
