How long is too long to wait for completion

I have been without my putter for 4 months now. Am I crazy or is that waaaaaay too long to wait for a putter refinishing project? At this point, what are my options?

Who is doing the refinishing job? Unless you are getting it satinized by the hands of virgins in the moonlight it is too long.

Depends on what you are having done. When a large PVD order was being done, it took a while.

The real question becomes whether you are satisfied with the results when you do get it back.

4 months seems really excessive. Who is doing it and what are you having done? (milling, coating, stamping, etc....) Have you contacted them before?

At this point I would rather not say who is working on it but i will say i am having some stamping/engraving done and i am having the putter head refinished.

uhh, you might want to try contacting that person and getting an explanation...actually, i probably would've done that abuot a month and a half ago. it's possible they did nothing wrong, did great work, put it in the mail, and it's been lost in the mail for 3 months, waiting for you to file an insurance claim.

i have actually traded several emails with the person and they just keep referring to the amount osf work they have going on. As slow as Putter Lounge is, they didnt even take this long with the putter i sent them. one of my issues now is what do i do? Demand to have my putter sent back to me regardles of the current condition? Ask for a discount on the work that was done? I'm kind of at a loss here.

No idea who is doing the work, but just keep in touch and do your best to be patient. I know it is hard, sometimes. If it is one of the guys who is talked about here, there is very, very little chance that it will disappear. From your description, the engraving can take a good amount of time, just to work it into the engraver's schedule.
As for demanding it be returned, that is an option, but seldom the best route for either party.
I have contacted three of the guys we hear about on this site and I think that each one is slammed more than the last.
My suggestion is to keep in touch, weekly and ask for pics along the way, if possible. Sometimes, we just need to see that the putter is being worked on and not just sitting in a corner.

thanks Nick...It is very difficult to be patient but i think it my best course of action at this point. I guess the one good point is that they have not cahsed my check yet. it's a good thing i didn't send my "gamer" in.

Same here, sent my putter in the week after Christmas. Let them do the work you hired them for, but next time send your putter to someone else. I was quoted a 4 week turn around time on Dec 27th. Within 7 days, he had my putter at his shop. It is MAY 1st!! I will be doing some name dropping in the near future. This is crazy. You can't confuse 4 weeks and 5 months. I was misled, lied to, etc... The thing that pisses me off, I have referred countless people to this guy over the years on this and two other forums. We are talking about thousands of folks reading about his business that otherwise would have never heard of him. My thanks, a five month wait on a basic Scotty tei3 refinish? WTH. Will be sending my business (and referrals) elsewhere in the future. There are six putters in my office I am needing to have refinished. Got to find someone that can keep their word better in the future. It sucks, but what do you do. He has your putter. Could be that our putters are laying side by side collecting dust. ha ha... Live and learn.

pretty easy to figure out who it is. there are only 3 guys dan always recommends. do a little searching and you can hammer it down.

Really pisses me off as I have been a big supporter of the guy for years. But the fact is he received my putter 5 months ago with a quoted 4 week turn around time. The few emails I have got from him have been one liners. I got about six putters that need refinished and I will be sending them elsewhere. No name dropping guys. I don't know what is going on with the guy. May be having personal issues, health, overworked, who knows.

At this rate I am going to get my custom Sunset Beach Putter before I get my putter being refinished back. That is a crazy thought. One putter is being made from scratch and the other is just being modified. Oh well, you live and you learn.

like dan said, you never know what's going on in someone's life. still, you should expect a quick explanation if there is something going on.

The bottom line to me is if you can't do a good job service and communication wise you should be in another line of work. 5 months is unacceptable. I would demand the putter back and move on.

I agree that this is way too long, hopefully you've been in touch with your vendor. It can be VERY frustrating to know that your item may have simply been forgotten about when you've plunked down some hard-earned cash.

As a reference for why this is ridiculous, I ordered a completely custom guitar neck the last week of March and it arrived yesterday.

Sent off my Bettinardi bb16 eight weeks ago to whom i am pretty sure the same guy,4 weeks went by and three e-mails he finally answered back with"its being prepped for finish",four more weeks gone by and nothing.Really kicking myself for not sending it to Bettinardi.

Got an email yesterday and my putter is shipping out tomorrow. Took 5 months, but there was apparently some issue with one step of the refinishing.


As I said earlier, no way of telling what is going on in folks lives. Family, work, working more than one job, health, etc..


I will lay final judgement on this experience when I see the putter.


Custom work inherently means wait times.


I do however feel that folks should do what they say, or at least offer rationale when deadlines can't be met.

Well, Like I said...I am now in posession of my Sunset Beach Custom putter and I have yet to get my hands on hte putter i sent to be refinished. SMH...

The Sunset Beach team did an AMAZING JOB! Don't look anywhere else if you are looking for 1) top tier service 2) top tier workmanship 3) top tier quality 4) top tier process. Thanks Sunset Beach.

Imagine that,withion two hours of posting this got a response from Mr Colbert himself,seems myBB16 has a screw stripped in the insert and he can't get it out! Took him 3 months to figure that out?? A stripped screw? After he emails me a month ago that my putter is being prepped for finish and will be done soon.And the final insult was he recommended that i send it too Bettinardi!!!!!!! Wish i had known that 2 1/2 months ago.
