best single meat you gotta try: the slammer at southside (ate 3 of 'em the other night, and got a qt of tater salad

brisket and ribs? depends. sometimes i go to a favorite spot and it's not that great...mostly hit, sometimes miss...

 

Eh, some will disagree and some will argue it's the experience (and maybe it is, no argument from me), but I find Salt Lick in Dripping Springs to be the best BBQ/experience going. Everything you listed is great, but when we wanna do something 'special' or having a bbq craving, we head out to Salt Lick for some family style.

Hate to get back on topic but we are staying in Dripping Springs in a couple of weeks and wanted to know how Quicksand Golf Course was? It is only about 10 miles while Falconhead is about 30 miles. I know Falconhead is great so was wondering if it was worth the extra drive. Most guys i am going with are not avid golfers.

Played Lakecliff Golf Club (not the Barton Creek property) and those bent grass greens are so much fun. I doubt they get much play since it's a pretty remote club, and private, but man those things roll so true. If you are able to find a deal and play it, jump all over it.

 

My buddies and I will definitely go back more often.

Just found out I'll be in town during the WGC Match Play at Austin. Your city will be bumping for those two weeks. SXSW then the PGA. Might need to book Falconhead as soon as possible since other golfers will be there.

The match play is a good time. Prettiest golf tourney entrance anywhere...they bring you in on floating decks on Lake Austin...and under Pennybacker Bridge.

I've got another range question. Would a place like Wolfdancer or Falconhead have nicer balls than the rest or is it all a much of muchness.

I'm going to trade the range in for the course in March, but still have a few weeks to go and it would be nice to have one session with something that was less rock-like :)

 

I didn't realise just how sh1t the range balls at North Austin spots were, until I pulled a few crap found balls out of my bag to hit and Velocitys/XHots somethings felt like marshmallows.

If I remember correctly Wolfdancer has premium range balls.

 

If you can get on at The University of Texas Golf Club range (Steiner ranch) they have ProV1 range balls.

clay/kizer complex...new food vendor...food is not good...at all...remember those incredible cheeseburgers? horrible now...with the first bite the cheap bun disintegrates like it's 90% air...the meat is without beef flavor....kinda like cardboard...the 'lemonade' they now have is water that had a lemon waved over it from 2 feet elevation...zero flavor...

and the prices went up like it's gourmet food theyre serving...

i eat at the carneceria up the street on stassney toward the freeway...they've got GREAT food! i can get 3 great tacos for the same price as one lousy taco at the new vendors...

oh, and a dr pepper was $2...they aint gittin' a dang dime from me again... lol

 

also: the hot dogs are bad...and the 'sausage' is just an oversized hot dog....tastes identical...digusting...

it's between I35 and the turn-right into the golf complex...from 35 it's on the right at the bottom of the hill...

i'm not posting much here due to a hip injury that is finally better, but now my back has a serious issue from fishing every day...getting old sucks...stuff starts hurting where you never knew pain could exist....

Thinking about playing Crystal Falls this weekend. It looks like a pretty good deal from the descriptions. Does anyone have an idea what the current conditions are like? We were going to do Lago Vista since it got pretty good reviews overall but a lot of the recent ones say it's in bad shape so we're looking for an alternative.

Dudes....played Falconhead today...and it was in the worst shape I've seen it. Bunkers washed out....pretty soggy....greens sanded....and just not manicured like I'm used to seeing it.

 

I know the greens will recover well as always....but man, I felt cheated for $44 green fee. Something going on over there...or just an isolated event.

It's been dumping rain out here as of late so I'm not surprised they've sanded the greens in anticipation for the good weather. I'd venture to say it's probably just beat up from getting pounded by storms lately but then again, everyone keeps saying FH is on a slow decline.. Hope not considering it's the only public course around me ha!
