Most Underwhelming Tour course you have played?

I think a lot of us have been very excited to play a golf course the Tour has played and left a little underwhelmed. Or not and maybe it's me. But I've been fortunate enough to play a lot of the Tour golf courses on the West Coast and was absolutely underwhelmed by TPC Summerlin. I didn't really think it was all that great of a golf course at all, kind of just a lot of blah. The experience was good and they had a good service staff, but the golf course is just okay with some really good holes and a lot of mediocre holes and the clubhouse is rather bland and boring.

 

So, let's hear them. What are yours?

Blue Monster. I was able to get on for much less than what they are asking so it didn't bother me nearly as much. But I couldn't imagine dropping 300 to play that course. It was in great condition when I went but other than the 18th, I felt like the course was not all that difficult or picturesque.

Doral Blue Monster and Valencia (L.A.). On the other hand, Riviera was excellent. :-)

La Costa. Granted, they use a combo of two courses to make the tournament course but I played them both before I left. Found it very, very average.

TPC Las Colinas is a bad course as well, but I was expecting that before I ever teed off.

The Qatar Masters in Doha, Qatar. Even though it was a change of pace from my daily grind while on a deployement, I would not play it again unless it was around tourney week.

Besides being 130*, The course was short, not well taken care at the time, fairways looked like a goat track but on the other hand the rough was dark dreen and long. As for the greens, it was like I was putting on a shag carpet. The tee boxes looked like they had a million rounds on them since the last time they moved or fixed them. Even though the club house looked great outside there wasn't much to it then a small proshop and bar. I guess they wanted to cater to the members, nice looker room, a room for bags and a room for shoes.

I will chalk this one up to the fact it was dead middle of the summer there.

Fair to say that the choice of a course for hosting a PGA Tour event has very little to do with the quality of the course.

Mine was Aronimink. I liked the place and all but the course was rather boring. Very good conditions but the holes are very uneventful and 18 is just a very plain boring hole. The greens are very nice but the holes in general were quite boring, repetitive and the day in general was underwhelming

tpc woodlands - woodlands, texas (where the shell houston open use to be). for a tpc i didn't see what the big fuss was, and i played it for $85 on a saturday. it has since gone private but just didn't get it.

hillcrest country club - boise, idaho (host nationwide tour event). 1 and 9 (10 and 18 for the tournament) are pretty interesting holes, but outside that the difficulty of that course is the thick rough. seemed real short as well.

Agree the only real value in that course is its ability to host tons of spectators during the tournament.

I agree as well. For the same price, I would have played We Ko Pa again.

I play Magnolia at Disney quite often, and while it's a good course, there isn't much to write home about in my opinion...

TPC Scottsdale has a really fun finish and its cool to play the course they play that tournament on but yeah, its pretty meh. Las Colinas is pretty bad also.

To end on a positive note, the most underrated or unknown course that hosts a pro event (although its a nationwide event) that I have played is Midland country club in Midland Texas. That golf course is flat out fantastic.

TPC Summerlin is a terrible course. boring and easy.

North Course at Torrey pines is really uneventful . The south course is a little better but besides a few holes it really is boring too. Tpc Summerlin is so-so TPC Las Vegas I think is a better course. I also agree on Magnolia course.

6. Summerlin (Vegas)

I will agree on Pebble Beach. It is a play once course but it is so repetitive and honestly boring. Sure it has a few great holes but I love spyglass so much more.

Glen Abbey....a few interesting holes in the valley but the front 9 is average at best.

Loved Riviera, used to love Valencia when I would play it for $10/day, all day, walking (did 54 holes, but I was 18 and 135 pounds when i started; still 18 54 holes later, but not sure on the weight).
Seriously, Valencia CC was a tremendous weekday bargain before it went private.

I was underwhelmed by Torrey South. Great views, long, but too straight.

You hear a lot of this, especially from people in the GTO. Personally I love the course but clearly I'm in the minority!

Innisbrook. Very boring except maybe two holes on the back. I was not blown away by Torrey South either but it was a good time.

A good way to tell that you'll be underwhelmed is when the course name has TPC stuck in front of it.

I played it before the remodel as it's probably been 10 years. However, I'm not sure it's been improved all that much based on a comments from the pros.
