Although it has only hosted a Champions Tour event, most over-rated and underwhelming course I have played is TPC Myrtle Beach. The course, even from the back tees is short, has blind landing areas for tee shots, and greens are slow.

For the money, I'd say Torrey and TPC Scottsdale. For the guest fees, you out to be blown away and aren't.

I would agree with Torrey Pines.

I'll nominate Poppy Hills. Very pedestrian... downright gross if it has been wet. Part of it is the location, it's surrounded by much (much!) better golf courses and part of it just the course itself. That said, I'm anxious to see it after it reopens from the renovation.

I found Sahalee CC to be incredibly underwhelming. Nice course and playing it daily would likely make you a very good (straight) player, but I never felt like it was major-worthy. I know a few other people who have similar thoughts.

Edgewood Golf in Tahoe. Some of the most hateful, rude staff; uninspired holes; average fairway conditioning; average practice facility; way overpriced!

with 4-5 great courses in Truckee I wouldn't play Edgewood for 75 bucks. At 275 bucks I can't believe anyone plays there. Way overrated.

Plus 1 on poppy hills. Never understood what the draw to this course was. I hope the renovation brings the course to life. I'd rather play bayonet or black horse when I make it down to Monterey/Carmel to play golf.

I want to stand up for Scottsdale! I thought the layout was alot of fun, especially the finish. I can vividly remember many of the decisions I had to make on that course, from years ago. I'm really surprised people are hating on it so much. I'm curious if some of the people complaining about it played from middle/forward tees.

I agree, I have played the Stadium course twice, and enjoyed it both times. Admittedly it is overpriced, but you can play it in May for $120 or so. I will say that I do prefer the back over the fron though.

Agreed, very little chance I will ever go back to Edgewood. So many other options in Tahoe that are better.

agree with oregongolf about the old Poppy Hills and Sahalee. (although I only played Sahalee north/south and not the other nine.)

The Northview (Ridge) course near Vancouver, British Columbia where the Air Canada Open was played is not impressive.

However, I did like the old south course at Torrey Pines (pre-Rees Jones renovation) and really enjoyed the north course there.

(It seems that where the PGA Tour plays often has more to do with infrastructure, transportation and availability rather than the merits of the courses. Obviously Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Riviera are exceptions.)

I played TPC Avenel about 10 years ago (prior home of the Kemper Open in the DC area) and the course did not impress at all. I'll give the locker room high marks however. When you made your tee time they put a brass name plate on a locker for you and stocked it with nice toiletries. Every other course I've played that hosts a tour event was more memorable. Avenel has since been renamed to (I believe) TPC Potomac.

The last two vacations I have taken with my wife have been to Fairmont Resorts overlooking tour courses: El Camaleon Riviera Maya Golf Club in Riviera Maya and the TPC Stadium Course in Scottsdale, AZ. I didn't play either course because of price/timing, but see the Stadium listed here. We are going to San Diego in April, and I was planning on playing Torrey Pines, which has been named already.

The only course I have in fact played that is on the tour/has been on the tour lately is Conway Farms Golf Club, which is amazing.

Torrey Pines shouldn't be on here. For the accessibility and quality that it provides it is a solid course. Maybe for guys that can get on the private tracks that many of the tour events are held at it may seem a little "downmarket", but for those of us that play mainly public tracks it is a ton of fun.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I also disagree with the TPC Stadium in Scottsdale being included. Again, it isn't the best course I've ever played, but it is certainly above average. What I liked the most about it, is that it isn't the same desert style golf that almost all of the Scottsdale area courses are. It almost seems out of place when compared to the desert courses. I would definitely play it again.

TPC Sawgrass...hands down most over priced, poorly conditioned "name" course I've had the misfortune to play...twice. Before you ask, they lost my clubs and gave me a voucher for a free round when they returned my clubs a week later. Went back four months later and the course was in even worse condition and still charging full price...$275. Our forecaddie on the second round said we might not finish before dark and have to walk in...I told him no, we'll skip a few holes on the back nine to play 16, 17, 18--only reason to come there in the first place.
