I'm talking stupid early here. I've been teeing off around 4:45am central time, sun wasn't up till 5:05ish. Pretty dark for the first hole but nothing like seeing that light peeking out over the trees. I've got a 2-1/2yo and a 7mo so I get the rounds in while I can. This isn't golf I'm playing to add to the handicap. This is me time for peace and a bit of a work out. Played Friday morn in 2:04. My course is about 6900 yds and I push a cart. It was a pretty good clip. Had a few birdies, pars, bogies and worse. Like I said, its more for the motion than the score. Anyone else like seeing sunup on hole 2?

Well done, and I understand, just getting out and getting it going. I wake up most days during the week about 4:15-4:30 to be at the gym by 5:00 when it opens, so getting up for a early round of golf is no problem for me.

My time for early golf is usually Sept, and October during football season, I usually tee off about 6:45-7:00 get the round done by 10ish, and then I have time to catch college gameday, and make sure I am in position for when my Dawgs play, on Sunday I am home showered and then off to the stadium watch the panthers play by 11:00.

Earliest tee was a 6:15 on vacation we couldn't play at 6am because Andy Williams had the first tee time. We didn't know who had the earlier time til he show'd up. We talked and we're excited cause here was a guy that has a theatre where we are vacationing. We were asked not to play up on him but truly he was a fast golfer at that time he was 69-70.

Hardly ever play before 1:00 or 2:00. I get off work at 3:00 and usually meet the group at 3:30 or 4:00. On the weekends still the same, hate getting up before 7:00 ish on Sat or Sun. Although I can understand how it works out better for some peoples schedule, just not mine. Oh and I don't like playing on wet, dewy grass in the morning. LOL

I've always loved "dawn patrol". Every Saturday at 6:15, done by 10:00. I'm back home as the rest of the family is starting their day. Generally meet up with better players at that time of day as well.

I sure do except for different reasons, my scores are increasing with age decreasing endurance while I love challenging the young guys. Nothing better than Sat early AM for me to take advantage as I play better w/o hangover (unlike the young guns still foggy from friday night), wet greens and an at home exercise/warm up where the young guns roll out of bed with starbucks and beer breath at the first tee. Granted by the second nine the tend to improve but my advantage continues.

I am fortunate to play in a group during the week the loves to play early so we are walking down the 1st fairway by 06:15 monday thru friday and the latest we finish is 09:30 with 4 walkers , some say it is a little too early but we have been playing at the same time or earlier in past years and would not have it any other way

I used to do that when my kids were that young and absolutely loved it. Now, my local courses won't let people out before they open the pro shop.

I love being a "dew sweeper" as most of my rounds are sunrise rounds. I have a 5 year old, 10 month old, and of course a full time job. So, if I want to play on a regular basis, which I usually don't anyway, it's a very early morning round. Plus, the wind is still, the course hasn't been touched yet, and it's so very peaceful! So much to love about early morning golf in my opinion!

I use golf clubs, 14 to be exact!  Mostly my putter though!

  • 2 months later...

I played in a "glo-ball" group at a So Cal course the other weekend. We tee'd off before sunrise (0550ish) with glo balls provided by the golf course(Knollwood). Side note, I had no intention of teeing off untill later that morning, the starter offered the early time. One drawback, the gnats were pretty bad!

Every weekend my wife has off I tee off by 6:30 somewhere both sat and sunday. Those are some of the most relaxing rounds I play. Home by late morning and can spend rest of day with family, or back to the golf course with friends.

I'll finish in 2 1/2 hours at one of my local, hilly courses when I'm the first to tee off in the dark. I love it like the OP, clears my mind and owning the whole course is awesome. I try to golf on a budget, so early rounds are expensive but worth it every couple weeks. First hole can be tough in the dark, though... :blind:

A majority of my rounds are super early. I tee off when possible at 5:30am and move it according to when sun rises. To me there is nothing like being out before everyone else. Now i personally know the owner and he gave me permission to do this early stuff. I also know majority of the staff. I love it get out early and enjoy and be home not long after my girls are up!

HI guys - new to the board as of today and this is the first thread I saw - I play with a guy from work that likes to get out at 7:30am. It's kinda rough, but he has 3 kids and is a great dad, so I make the effort for him. He's great to play with and will play at any of the courses in our area (we live in Miami) just so long as it's early as possible.

I'm engaged and we have a dog, but really no commitments during the day, so I allow my buddy to set the tee times.

I mostly play early, there have been times when instead of driving home at 2-3am from a party, I drive to the course and have slept in the parking lot. If I had gone home I would not have woken up in time to to play my round. 6-6:30 is no big deal. earliest tee time was 5:45am. regular is 6:30am. I don't mind playing later rounds but I do not like waiting to hit my next shot.

I used to play that early when I first started playing and wanted to course all to myself. Now that Im better and have more confidence in my game, I sleep in and tee off closer to 10am. Now that Im to the point where Im better than 90% of the other players on the course, theres no reason to not sleep in just so that I can have to course to myself.

I can't say I prefer teeing off in the dark, but early morning rounds are great... You can truly identify the true golfaholics... and the true alchoholics. Gotta love meeting a new playing partner on the first tee at dawn, then hearing the beer can pop open in the first fairway LOL

[/quote]Most nice courses won't allow it because the greens crew needs the opportunity to do their daily thing at sunup.
