Miura wedge series anyone use them?

Recommended Posts

ok guys im in a bit of a pickle.
need advice, i know nothing of miura wedges but
i want to change my wedge set up. use Ymaha inpres x wedges
52/58.

i want to change to a 54/58 or 59 set up.
54 is my gap wedge and 58/59 my lob.

i use the 54 from the fairway 100 yards in. also use it around the green
when the pin is in the middle of the green

58/59 for everything else, i like opening it up for flops, and hooding it for downhill and tight bump and runs.
what would you suggest for me??

i like the K grind but bending to 54 might be a problem. also what would you suggest for my lob? thanks

help a miura newbie out.

I use Y-grinds, and they're fabulous. Smooth as silk, sharp as scalpels for accuracy. There is a Y-grind 53 and also a 60. You might not have to bend them at all for your setup.

My K wedge is bent to 55. I don't have any issues bending it to 54 as the bounce is already high and you would only lower the bounce by 2 If you went to 54.

For the lob try the 57 or 59 C grind. Very versatile grind. You can play it open very easily with that grind.

I think I read above that they are bringing out new lofts but in 52 and 60 to add to the 56. The specs on that site you linked to are for the C grind

ok thanks. it was under the K series specs so i assumed it was for the K.

I am looking for a 3 wedge setup, but need advice. I want a gw 51-52 degrees, a wedge for high flop shots that I can open up that hits out of thick heavy rough that stops quickly, then another wedge for the sand. I have a S-grind Vokey 58 and T-grind Vokey 64 but both dig in the heel when I open them up and neither one works well out of thick rough. Thanks.

First round with my K grind and i wasn't feeling it as much as my wedge series 56. Same specs but with 12* of bounce versus my 9* bounce on my wedge series. I felt like the K grind was about 5 to 8 yards shorter and the bounce was noticeable. not sure if I am going to carry it out with me again or whether I will drop back to my wedge series.

It's nice to see a critical review of a miura product. Miura gets so much praise that I sometimes think people are use riding the high praise bandwagon.

I felt the bounce, too, until I shallowed out my swing with more hip slide - hands ahead slightly, slide to get more secondary tilt and voila - well, it worked for me. YMMV.

Nothing wrong with the wedge - it's whether it fits you, or it may expose a swing flaw, as it did in my case.

I would personally not change my swing to fit one wedge. I am a pretty good wedge player to start with and the bounce is just a little much for me. I play in the southeast with a lot of hard ground so the bounce just might not fit my local either. With my swing and my 9* of bounce I can aggressively play any conditions.

I just got my miura wedges the other day and have only used them for 1 round so far but I am very impressed! I gained a small amount of yardage and they feel better then any other wedges I've used in the past 20 years. Good spin too with the dg spinner + shafts. I got the 51y, 56k, and 59c (bent to 61.) I live in northern california, so the higher bounce is good for our conditions and my swing type. So glad I spent the extra money on these!

I am in the process of changing my swing to a center pivot, and use the wedges a lot for drills, which is one reason I also picked up an SM4 - for practice. So - I am not changing my swing to fit a wedge - I am changing my swing, and the Miura has given me feedback as to what is working, or not.

Yeah.....I have done it numerous times where customers specify the loft they wanted (The customer is always right you know?) Usually just 1 or 2 degrees, but as I posted earlier in this thread we had one guy who loved the K Grind so much he wanted 3 of them...56*... 56* bent to 52* and 56 bent to 60*

Let' face it....lots of people buy golf equipment (and other stuff) because of what it is not for how well it actually works for them. :fie:

Not much heel or toe grinding in the K - so using it as a versatile LW is doubtful. I've found that the K as a SW and the C as a LW works well as a combo.

I mainly play 51y and 57c but alternate in a Forged 54.14@55, a 56K@55, and a 59C depending on course and/or conditions.

I can say unequivocally that these wedges are the best I have ever used...better than any tour, custom design, or retail Vokey, Mizuno (several generations of MP), Scratch JLM or Tour, TM, fourteen, tourstage, Cleveland (tour and retail) I've ever had or used.

The feel, distance control, spin, versatility of grinds -- pretty much every aspect you can judge a wedge on -- are absolutely perfect for me.

Sounds like hyperbole, I know, but I have used MANY wedges and none have helped improve my short game in a greater way than my Miuras.

Hi doc can u elaborate on your course conditions? I pretty much play one set of wedges for all courses. I know I should have more
But I don't..

How would the 56k act if bent to 54 and serve as a full gap ?

I couldn't agree more with you. Some folks here seem to think something other than a true reaction to Miura feel is at work in some of the praise in posts, but for me, too, the reality of using Miura wedges is that I've never experienced anything better. And like you, I've tried many, many wedges over the years -- Vokey, Callaway, Scratch, Feel, Mizuno, etc -- and nothing comes close to what I get with the Miuras. I literally feel the ball, especially on the shortest of pitches and chips, as if I'm brushing it with the palm of my hand.

I should say, I love the short game, I started with it when I took up golf. I spend hours practicing it. I even put in a tiny putting green in my backyard with a net behind it, and I spend many afternoons just chipping. I never leave until I've holed at least two from off the green.

I use the Y-grind 49 and 53, and the C-grind 57 -- all with DG Spinner shaft. My only regret is that Miura doesn't make a 64* (yet...) -- for that I'm currently using the Callaway forged.

I'm not a big fan of bending wedges -- especially finer ones like Miura's. You can end up messing with the subtleties of the grind and bounce, and in some cases you can reduce the effectiveness of the design that caused you to buy the wedge in the first place.

What 2 wedge combo would be best for soft conditions? I live in Pacific NW and regularly play in soft/wet conditions from Feb-May, Oct-Nov.

I was thinking the 54 *14 and 58 *8 in the wedge series but if the other grinds are better for soft turf I'd appreciate input. Maybe a 52 and a K grind 56? I'd say I'm a bit of a digger...

I love hitting the Miuras. I have the 55 & 59 C Grinds, a set of 54 & 58 Blacks and a Satin 60. Regardless of the type, the sole is perfect.

The only complaint I have is that the heads are just a bit too big for my eye (though that's all I've been playing for the past 3 years).

I don't have a spin issue and prefer less spin on my wedges- I don't like to back them up from the fairway and prefer more run off from shots around the greens. That is the only reason I don't play my Vega raws- they spin too much. Otherwise I prefered them more than my Miuras. I have a 54* Fourteen wedge coming in the mail for that very same (spin) reason.

Regardless, they are among the best wedges made.

I bend all my own clubs- if you know what you're doing it's easy.
