Got this email from the NCGA. Wish more of the great courses of the US would offer something like this to the general public. You do have to be an NCGA member. Pretty good deal!

Got this email thought it was a joke or a scam. But figured WTH, why not try to call.
Right at 8:28 I started calling both numbers. Busy signal. Dialed repeatedly for one hour solid, almost 500 calls to get thru, constant busy signal,all recorded on my iPhone. Finally gave up and called back around 11:00am and finally got thru to the ncga office, talking to an operator there who said that this email got sent out to about 139,000 ncga members and there were over 100 operators who were there to accept calls. The thing filled up in 18 min. and so many people called that the phone system crashed for about 8 min. of those 18 min.

I whipped out my calculator and figured what were the odds of getting a tee time for 100 people out of 139,000 emails. You're chances of getting a time were 0.07%. Love it. Operator said it was basically blind luck your phone call got thru at the exact millisecond an operator hung up with someone else. Those are some really lucky folks who got in.

Funny thing is, all the calls after the 18 min mark were all for not!!! I was calling hundreds of times for nothing!! lol!!!!

As one of the lucky ones who got to do this, thanks to the NCGA and Olympic Club for offering this members' outing. It was a great experience to see and feel this great course in person, and it was tough. The hole positions were in the same spot as they used on Sunday at the US Open, and the greens were hard and pretty fast, making it very hard get the ball near the hole on approach shots. It is also very hard on many holes to keep a ball in the fairway due to the side slope many of them had. But a fabulous day of golf!

Kudos to the folks that got through. Thank goodness I have had the good fortune to play the Ocean Course a number of times thanks to a connection to a member. Would have been cool to play the Sunday pin placements...

I think this is a great way to reach out to USGA/local GA members. I hope they continue it in the future.

That wasn't the deal.
It was a special deal put on by the Olympic Club and the NCGA.
As it's a private club, asking to play twilight wasn't an option.

Haha. True, true. I did completely whiff on that one, if it was the intent :blush2:
But I am trying to read everything positively and objectively from now on and not assume it's a non-stop smugfest.The general tone of this place can make everyone, myself included, a sarcastic knob jockey and make the general mood far more caustic than it should. Such as a pisstake post in a dead thread for instance.
