We where lucky enough to have a bottle of Glenfiddich 30 on our yearly golf trip a couple of week ago, What a treat !

how would you describe it?
how does it stack up to the younger iterations?
comparable to what other scotches?

to this point, i can only dream of what a 30 yr old single malt would taste like, so i apologize for the barrage of questions.

It what you would expect from something thats been in barrel for so long.
Strong woody aroma and taste (a good thing) , smooth and extremely rich in colour, Does not compare to anything else I've ever tasted.

Mmmmmmmmm what should be discussed here is a communal bottle.
Whoever wants a taste of the old stuff puts their name in (myself included) and we all pitch in on a good bottle and in one night...devour it.
I know this is far fetched but seems like a good idea to this foggy brain.

Sorry Eagle...I don't necessarily finish a bottle before getting a new one. I currently have several open bottles and pick on one depending on my mood.
Last night was...wait for it...a nice little Auchentoshan 3 wood. DELICIOUS!!!

You know, I looked at my bottles and wanted another taste...ended up finding the end of the bottle...which was just as delicious!

what's the dram of choice ON the course? in other words, what's in your flask?

if it's spring/fall/winter, i tend towards balvenie caribbean cask. it's a good one, because it appeals to more folks and is thus easier to share around. during the summer, it's usually grey goose, which i then pour over ice. for me, it's too hot to drink scotch mid-round in the summer.

scratch and i are going to buy a distillery - you in? mixing single malts is the start of the process of learning how to create our scotch masterpiece.

I only save the tins, not the bottles. The bottles I just throw into my neighbors trash when it's one the street. Out of sight out of mind..... The trash guys must think my neighbors have some serious issues

A buddy of mine wants to build a mock wall using old (clean) whiskey bottles. Not sure it's a good idea but I am intrigued though.

See I'm proud of the empties I have, whatever they are. Beer, wine, or the hard stuff. But then again; I have absolutely no shame!

I simply cannot let the 'other' scotch thread overtake this one. That's like saying blends are better than single malts! I know it's all about personal choice, but let's be honest: aside from monkey shoulder, blends are awful.

Drinking the A#1 this evening: lagavulin 16. Whiskey stones to chill, and a couple drips of water to release the flava.

How about you guys?
