Bandon Dunes - How Does This Course Sequence Look?

Just booked Bandon Dunes trip for July -- any suggested changes to this course sequence based on experience?

--First Day--

-7:35 AM landing at North Bend (30 mins from the resort) on a flight from Portland

-9:50 AM Bandon Trails, then 3:30 PM Bandon Preserve (the new par-3) [[or should I do Preserve then Trails]]

Forest King room at the Inn (Lodge NE/NW rooms were booked up)

--Second Day--

-7 AM Bandon Dunes (first tee time of the day), then 1:20 PM Pacific Dunes [[bandon booked up that afternoon]]

--Third Day--

-7 AM Old Mac, then 12:40 PM Pacific Dunes again [[reservationist suggested Old Mac in AM for less wind than in PM]]

-8 PM flight from North Bend to San Fran, then redeye to east coast

Thanks in advance!

I would play Old Macdonald first. My reason is the view from the start of the 3rd fairway. Nothing on the property is better. Simply outstanding.

I'd play Old Macdonald, Bandon Preserve, Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, and do a coin flip for the other round on day 3.

Also keep in mind that on your first and second days, you can play a 3rd round for free. So even if it's another turn around Preserve, 9 holes on Bandon Dunes or whatever, you can do it at no charge.

I'd keep your rotation the way it is. That's a great lineup.

Bandon Trails and Old Mac are the toughest to walk so good you're not doing 36 on those in one day and keeping them seperate.

Trails and preserve together are good cuz same clubhouse.

Great you're playing twice at Pac Dunes. Best course to play more than once.

There is nothing wriong with the itinerary you propose. Even if I thought that the view from Old Mac #3 was the best, that's not a reason (IMO) to play there first. Why do the best first (assuming I thought it was best) and be let down by subsequent views? However, I think there are great views from BD and PD and even other palces on Old Mac, I like the view from the 14th green at OM back to towrad the tee and the ocean better. That's what I have on my ooffice wall.

I would change out the 2nd Pac Dunes round for another at BD. Call us odd, but our group has enjoyed BD over PD each of the last 2 years. OM in the morning is a GREAT round! The Preserve is rather enjoyable - well worth working into a rotation.

This year we flew into Portland and drove to the resort. Arrived at the resort at 2:30am w/ a 8:00am PD tee time. Played PD and Preserve Day 1. OM and PD day two. Got up at 3am on the next morning to drive back to Portland. All worth it!

Personally, I think it's a great maximization of time. And I personally prefer PD to BD. I haven't had the opportunity yet to play Old Mac yet. That's coming in April this year. Then it will be betwen 9 and 11 rounds in 7 days for me hitting all of the courses except bandon trails twice and PD probably three times. (Pacific Dunes is my absolute favorite course anywhere).

One thing I've found in my times there, is that Pacific Dunes is generally more windy in the afternoon than in the mornings. So playing it in the afternoons both times will mean that you'll probably experience it with wind. And the wind can blow there. only Thing I might suggest would be playing PD in the first morning and Bandon trails in one of the afternoons. That way you'll get to experience PD both in the morning and the afternoon with a chance for wind and a chance for no wind. Bandon Trails is not as impacted by wind as Bandon Dunes and pacific dunes in my experience. Your mileage may vary.

But I think you've got an excellent mix in my opinion.

According to the caddies I've had there, they say Bandon Trails and Pac Dunes are the toughest walks and to split those courses up.

As said above, the top of the 3rd fairway on Old Mac is still the coolest view or sight I've seen in golf. Nothing like you've seen before.

Both my caddies said BTrails and OM were the toughest to walk!! Haha!! Personally I think BT is the toughest, and I'd have to agree with my caddies that OM is tougher than PD. but that's just me, but to be honest, the absolute most brutal walk is from Mckee's to the shuttle stop after 54 holes and a stomach full of beer and food. I literally almost passed out stumbling out of there after dinner. lol

I did not think the preserve was part of that deal?

Line up looks good.

For our trip we are going:

arrive 12- 1pm Bandon dunes
Day 2 - Bandon Dunes , Pacific Dunes
Day 3 - Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes
Day 4 Old Mac, Old Mac
Day 5 - Preserve, leave at noon.

Bandon Trails is not open when we are there - though I have heard rumor you can still play 14 holes so We may try and squeeze that in

I walked and carried for 120 rounds last year, but to get ready for this I have been making sure to run 5miles 3 times a week when i don't golf and 3miles BEFORE my rounds to try replicate tired legs. Hopefully my old body will hold up.

I find the Preserve is a great warm up for any of the courses.

In November, we played the Preserve in advance of all our 18 hole rounds instead of going to the driving range. Great fun and helped us focus.

I have a buddy who was there for a few days beginning Jan 1, and he told me he played part of Bandon Trails.
