Met Lumpy yesterday after what seemed like an eternity. Had to wait on the sight line to dry then he asked about paint since we never discussed it. Best left untouched I thought. No CNC used on this one - drill press, small mill and hand work. My apologies for sideways photos. First time for everything.

Swapped this with Lumpy today for a CNC head in 303 GSS. He and I talked in the "puttershack" for about an hour. He had a few gears strip on his mill and replacement parts haven't lasted more than a day. He acknowledged a few orders backed up as well. It's a one man show seriously. Trust me, he's out in the shack making sticks and in whatever the weather provides. It wasn't pleasant in there at 94*F.

Will do. Currently about to rub it down with some 'gun oil' that Lamont suggests using on carbon putters to preserve life.

Thanks very much. I had heard Rem oil was decent as well. I noticed some rusting on my torched carbon putters, would like to see how well the oil works

I've used EEZ-OX with success, but was turned on to Sentry Solutions Marine-Tuf cloths by another WRX member. Fabulous product. 12" by 12" cloths arrive in resealable pouches. Oil-free. Non-toxic. Wipe on, let penetrate, reapply when needed. I don't use anything else anymore.

Ok so I'm not the only one.

 

I ordered that one above on about June 1. I got it August 17. I also ordered a 2nd putter on June 1.... I haven't gotten it yet. Last Tuesday he said he had it ready to go... I don't have it yet.

 

I think maybe something is going on with him/family maybe? Don't want to make assumptions but he told me he lost my first putter and that it got stolen. I told him ya know, wow that's alarming... did you file a police report, etc.. no response. Just sent me another one randomly like 3 weeks later.

I ordered two handmades last October, and paid in full...havent received them yet, and I feel as though I'm getting the run around when I actually do receive some sort of response (usually a one line email response).

 

I have ordered 4 putters from him in the past. He makes a great putter but communication and time are not his forte

Holy guacamole Lefty that stinks. Certainly takes the excitement out of a build. I could handle a year wait if I knew that was the timeline, but I really struggle with broken promises. The dreaded "the putter will be ready to ship next week", which turns into a 4 month run around.

 

I hope all resolves itself in the near future.

 

A bright spot, I've got a kitchen renovation around the corner and National Custom Works build on the horizon. Other 'fish to fry'.

Wow. You guys are really patient. When I contacted him in May via Facebook, he was fast to respond. Told me lead times were 4 weeks. Was real fast to take my order and my money, too.... but then when I email him to ask for some kind of update, it's usually days, up to a week for a response. Another guy on here I was PM'ing with said to just call him because he's bad at email. I get it... some of us aren't on the email train, but businesses need to adapt if you want to keep up.

 

Love his work, love the draftsmanship. Just... not making me feel awesome about when I'm actually getting my putter (and the accessories I ordered, too).

Thing is for me... If I don't get mine by Nov 8, I might be canceling my order. I have a fitting at TXG on Nov 9 and since he welds and shapes his necks to give the amount of toe hang... If I end up in anything other than 15* like I have now, the putter I have outstanding is basically a paper weight. Maybeeeee I could get lucky because mine are carbon steel that they could be bent slightly if I'm around that area. But if I ended up needing like 45* hang or something like that, I'm prob SOL. I shouldn't have to sell the putter and take a loss because it took so long, right? Can't really "return" it because it's kind of a custom build.

 

I don't want to do that to the guy, but I shouldn't have to wait nearly 5 months when you say your lead time is 4 weeks. Sounds like this is common though...

Unfortunately this is not the exception in the custom world. The product is usually what you are hoping for but the ride can be bumpy.

I don't mind it taking a while... it's worth the beauty. However... Don't say 4 weeks when it's 4+ months, ya know? Especially if you keep telling people it's ready, then it's not.. over and over. Just venting I guess because I really want my stick, haha.

I hope he is alright. I just wish the guy got a little help to answer his emails and ship out putters so he could concentrate on building, if that's what he wants to do. I will be asking for a refund through paypal if I dont hear from him soon (with confirmation that the putters are finished). It's been nearly a year since I paid for them, it's a bit ridiculous when he told me about 8 months ago that he'd be "shipping out at the end of the week". Don't BS me, just tell me how long it will really take, then I can decide if I want to wait that long.

A year is insane. Honestly, as rude as it may sound I'd probably give him an ultimatum and say if you don't get the the putter in X weeks, you'll be requesting a refund.

 

I'm now really worried it'll be months before I get mine... even though it was ready last week.

took me over a year and after a few ultimatums i got a putter that was about 70% of what i ordered. i feel the pain
