Tom Watson has been my favorite golfer since I started playing the game. The first shot I can remember watching on TV when I was a tyke was his chip in the US Open at Pebble.

With that said.....How good would Tom be if he could actually putt?? Love the guy - but it's painful to watch.

Was he a really good putter at some point? Thought I read he was a very bold putter. Amazing and inspiring to see him playing like he does. I think he said his excercise regimen is tossing hay bales or something.

at this stage of their careers, whats the difference between t31 and missed cut? it's either win or didn't win. I think phil plays all out to win, if it doesn't come off there's always the next tourney. what use is a cheque for $10,000 or whatever for phil mickelson?

tiger aside, he's the winningest guy out there, by a long way. I think some of you are a bit hard oh phil just because he isn't in contention every week like tiger.

Watson is better at playing within himself, and taking what the course gives him than is Mickelson.

Watson was a very good putter, then by his own admission started yipping when spending too much time at night sipping on the red stuff. Even Jack N. has stated that many golfers couldn't putt well due to going out at night and drinking.

Watson's interview with Feherty goes over this a bit.

Phil is worth almost 200 million, why would he not just fire away and take a chance at getting hot instead of safe play and a chump change check for making the cut?

Exactly. Go Phil!

Watson seems to have his own issues beyond just being a hypocrite...

Exactly. Guess it was easier to single out ole Phil the Thrill.

I'm a fan of his 'ALL IN' style of play. He's not playin for a cuts-made streak, or paycheck, at this point. Go Phil!
