First form comment for me. The apex pro irons look sweet, wondering if the back insert will reduce shock much? Anyone hit these head to head with Pings new 55's?
Welcome to Wrx!!

Haven't had a chance to hit against the S55's yet..may do that tonight now that you mentioned it. There is good feedback when you miss the Apex Pro..nothing harsh, but you know where you hit it on all shots..good and bad. The insert is not wide, but pretty deep..so it may help a touch..just know that they feel good enough to kick my X Forged out of the bag..and I love those, but the Pro's are more forgiving.

Apex Pros (a touch larger) as to the X-Forged, as the X-Forged (a touch larger) are to the X-Prototypes. Apex Pros on one end of the scale, and X-Prototypes on the other end yet the three aren't very far apart. :good:

I sure hope the Apex Pro's sit better than the Apex or else I am going to stick with Titleist in 2014. I placed an Apex 6 iron on the floor yesterday and it naturally flipped closed which is a major design flaw/oversight IMO. Both the 714 AP1's and AP'2 sat on the ground square. I did not compare to anything else and there was not an Apex Pro available. Can anyone comment?

Honest question...what relevance does this have on anything and what would cause it? I don't let the club 'center itself' on the group before I take my grip, I do all that myself before grounding the club. Would offset cause this? Maybe it being too upright?

I know they put tungsten weights in a few of the irons (I think it stops somewhere around the 6 iron, not sure though) so maybe that extra weight causes it?

Either way, I'm genuinely curious what effect this has, if anything. Or is it just a personal preference for you, and it doesn't really change anything in the actual club.

That very well could be the case. I will check them out again and not make any decisions until I see the Apex Pro's in hand and compare on Trackman. For the first time in 10+ years I am very interested in Callaway and want to feel comfortable about switching.

Performance is only 1 piece. Being comfortable looking at the club is huge because the last thing you want to do is instill poor swing thoughts. They could sit square to my eyes but closed to yours so regardless you are the one swinging your clubs so you have to play what fits your eyes. Best of luck and if it doesn't work out then so be it. It may be the offset playing with your eyes as well. Let us know what you decide on!

It reminds me alot of the R9 TP. Or the J40's. Yet it's got a thick top line, and not very soft.
First two to say that!!! Callaway haters?

The Apex do not resemble the r9 tp's at all. X 20 tours, diablo forged yes, but taylormade no.

The Apex Pro's look nothing like the X20 tours; however, it is not a massive leap to say there are some design queues that could remind someone of the R9 TPs. Just because they are from different OEMs doesn't negate similarities in the looks dept.

If you look a couple posts up I was replying to the person who said the original Apex resembled the r9 tp's and he hasn't been able to hit the pros.

So yes the Apex do resemble the x 20 tours...

^Fair enough on the Apex v X20 Tours, now was Timinator talking about the Apex Pro or the regular? Surely he must have been referring to the Pros.

Read up 8 posts or so and then 6 posts or so. He was talking about the Apex, not the Apex Pros.

This is again disappointing for a few reasons. Only a custom option (at least being shown) in the Pro and not the regular Apex model. Also showing only stiff flex, no X. Weird?!

Currently, only carry the Taper tip in the Modus 120...so only for the Apex Pro...doesn't mean they won't order the parallel and carry them at a later date if Nippon makes them? not sure. Demand for flexes usually changes what they offer in flex's...all a work on progress for shafts. So right now a hosel dictates which shafts are for which...I think that is about the only one I saw not really offered in both heads...didn't look hard though.

I hit the Apex (regular, not pro) for a little while at a big box store. It seemed like distances were pretty good, feel was good (not great), but the look of these just screams "GI" to me (and not in a good way). Waaaay thick top line and waaay too much offset. I know a lot of the Callawrx2 posts and other people who have tried them have been suggesting that the Apex look good enough to be a player's club set throughout the bag, but for me it just ain't working. Still interested in trying the Pro's though. Think the feel/looks/flight of those might be better for me.

**Long Disclaimer: Before anyone starts, no, I am not saying these are bad clubs. No, I am not hating on Callaway. Yes, I do think the look of irons is a pretty important factor in my club choices. Finally, and most importantly, I saw no performance gains with the Apex compared to the MP59s and AP2s (just two other demos that happened to be around) that would make me want to game them in spite of their looks (So for all of you who want to say "how stupid are you to value looks over performance", don't bother, it was a combo of looks and a lack of improved performance that led me to my conclusions.)

Taper tip shafts work just fine in parallel tip heads, you just need a shim. Why even make them in parallel tip anyways? I'm pretty sure all the PXi shafts they are using are Taper Tip and just adjusting things for each head.
