Stillwater golf course at Mystic Ridge...Now Hideaway at Arrington

Was out there today. Changed #1 around completely. Also number 9. The green is now on the layup side and not across the gorge anymore. 10 still is under a complete redo

So weird to me to see these changes. I’m sure they are making it easier and more aesthetically pleasing but damn I miss that place.

Why would I ever contemplate flirting with the right hand fairway bunker, ever? Play out to the left, away from the bunker, away from the hazard (penalty area *spit* 2019 USGA verbiage) and have the better angle to the green not over the hazard.

Maybe this is the "gentle handshake" concept for an opening hole?

Agreed. So far I’ve only seen 5 holes but all are “resort” style golf which i guess is what these people are paying for.

Number 9 , par5 just rides along the right side the whole way now. Never having to cross the ravine. Number 6 we know they will re-do because it was the most complained about hole by members. The par 3 with no bailout from around 175ish. Number 7 has 90% of the bunkers removed. That was the hole as you cross the road and all you could see where bunkers everywhere. Like a 295 hole with virtually no room for error. All fairway now with some

Bunkers to the left.

Look for amateur golf, that course was a challenge no matter how good you were of you played from the right tee box. Now it appears it will be totally resort golf friendly.

It’s crazy that I started this thread 5 years ago wondering when the course would be finished and ready to play and it’s STILL not a fully functional golf course. That’s insane.

Is Johan still associated with the course I wonder?

Johan is still there as is some of the other original HoA staff. The course was fully functional and ready to play for two plus years but when DLC acquired it, Fazio changed things... a lot.

Drove by yesterday. Totally surprised they had turf, everywhere I could see. It actually looked playable with the exception of the sand traps which were not filled. At least most were not filled. #10 was the last one i saw no turf on and it looked pretty great. They grass is oh-so green. A few more homes have been built but not new accommodations.

They are hosting a tourney out there on November 4th I believe. I was told $7500 for a foursome. Not sure if that is correct as that seems a weeeeeee bit steep.

They opened the front 9 last weekend. I drove through and things looked pretty good, albeit the weather wasn't super cooperative.

They've also got two lots for sale at the low low price of $850k and $950k. Both have been on the market for months. I don't know who is going to spend that kind of money for less than a half acre of land in Arrington.

For what it is worth, talked to a PGA professional who knows Johan Kok, general manager at the course). Johan told him it will be difficult to get anyone on the course, even another golf professional. Said it was out of his hands, and non member play has to be cleared through corporate. Unless you know a member you can play with as a guest, which I do not, I do not expect to be able to play the course.

Looks like they really are trying to be super, super exclusive. Also, one of the reasons they changed the name from the Hideaway to the Troubadour is Discovery Land Company (the developer) already has a course in LaQuinta named the Hideaway.

At least some of us got a chance to play it before they changed it all up. Johan was a lot nicer to all of us than I expected.

Yes, many people got to play it. Probably too many of DLC’s liking as there is not way they good have changed it enough to become a “National” must play. I’m sure it’s good as I thought it was good a few holes withstanding when I was a member but it will never have that “exclusive” feel to me no matter what they do.

Heard the same. My golfing partner’s friend works out at Troubadour and told him he would try and get him out there but would have to clear it with HQ before doing so. I was kind of shocked at that. Who would know? But rules are rules I guess

I think they would know from the fact that anyone being out on the course stands out. We ride through there all the time and never see a soul playing. It’s the nicest deserted course I’ve ever seen.

I think he means from California. Their HQ (I believe is in CA) but who there is going to know there is someone on the course and did they pay or not.

like you said, hardly gets any play right now.

I had a chance to get out and play the course last week. Obviously in great shape and a fun course. The front 9 is quite a bit further along in maturity, the back 9 needs to grow in a bit. When it's all grown in, I think the whole course will be pretty awesome. The range and comfort stations are obviously beyond over the top. Below are a few pictures I took.
