I hope not, they would certainly p..s me off considerably. I don't need live stats as that makes the system non-compliant and I play most of my rounds in competitions. Although I always bitched against having to upload the rounds from my laptop, it is not worth an upgrade of £99.

I don't see why the Strokes Gained stats can't be offered for the 'classic' GG. I think alienating the community behind GG by forcing an upgrade for the stats would be suicide for them - the trust in the company would be gone as if they can do it once, they might do it again and who would buy knowing they might get screwed in a years time again.

I agree. I don't play competitive rounds but have no desire to interact with (or even view) the data on course, and if I can't get the advanced metrics without an upgrade I'll be upset. I based my purchase on the notion of web-based updates and hardware that doesn't seem to require any improvements to capture the necessary data. I recommend this device constantly, but I couldn't continue to do that--and certainly wouldn't spend any more of my own money on a company that did business that way.

Oh happy day! This is fantastic news. I love my Game Golf, but I also have tracked my stats via a strokes gained sheet for a while now. The strokes gained is a far better indicator of what I need to work on in my game than what Game Golf has given me so far, but I love the ease of tap and go and I like the visual nature of Game Golf over just an excel spreadsheet of strokes gained.

I'm officially excited to see the strokes gained addition to what was already a very good product at a good price point.

(I won't adopt to "Live", as I don't care about stats or anything else mid round, but I'm sure there are those who will love that option)

So emails are out now (new thread created as well). What I see is that they are offering 50% of standard price depending on where you live.

Basically that is 150$, 99 GBP or 163 Euros.

Seems a little harsh on us in Continental Europe as even the UK price would convert to 137 euros and not the 163 that we have to pay.

Still rather limited in what is actually new and where the real benefit is. Based on the previous information that the StrokesGained stuff will be available for all I do not see where the real benefit is for the "Live" version.

Have I misunderstood, does Game Golf Live mean that you will wear a unit on your belt, tag the unit to record a shot and then look at your phone (which is presumably in your pocket)?? That means you are carrying two devices, surely that is a hard sell. Making performance trackers 'live' must slow down the game.

I don't see that the new functionality slows the game down unless you let it. If you do not want to use the in game statistics that there is no difference to the current handling.

If you want to use the rangefinder side of things then you still have the phone app there as you do now but you will simply have more information available if you want it. I agree that there is a danger that people could become slower than they are now but those people will always be slow. If used sensibly it should make no difference to a normal round.

Personally I like the "live" aspect more that I can analyse the round right afterwards when having a beer rather than having to wait for PC access.

IMO this is just a reaction to the Arccos functionality. I dont see it, dont get it and would never use it. But this - to me - is clearly a response to Arccos.

What I dont understand is why anyone who wanted this functionality would ever buy GG in the first place. If the one thing you were looking for was being able to play around on your phone during or immediately after the round with live stats updates - surely you would go with the company that has that while not requiring you to wear a secondary belt unit and tap it each time?

I'll wait until the new stats package / site design comes out before passing judgement on it for next season.

I said @ a year ago it would be great if they redesigned the belt unit to have a tiny display on it that simply displayed FMB distances.

I love the "classic," but I have no interest in "Live" if I have to keep my phone in my pocket. I know a few guys who gave up on Arrcos because they didn't like having to keep their phone in their pocket.

Can I ask how the phone app slowed you down? I am thinking about ditching my Sky Caddie due to the membership fee and going for the GameGolf as my rangefinder solution. I would not care about the live feedback but simply the distance to pin information. I know this would be illegal for competitions but am interested in your feedback

[/quote]Constantly pulling the phone in and out of my pocket got to be a pain after a while. And hitting the lock button all the time out of habit so I'd have to go in and unlock the phone again.


A few players that I've played with always forget to tag shots on the phone and sometimes have to go back to the location of the last shot.

Just way more of a hassle than using the hip unit and a rangefinder.

The only reason I would get the new Live version is to view the stats after the round in the bar. But then you wouldn't socialize with your playing partners anymore - not good!
So I guess I stick with the classic. For away trips it would be nice if you can upload it on the same day but I am not going on golfing trips that often to make the upgrade worth while.

But I can't wait for the Strokes Gained stats!!!

I have a question on Strokes Gained. Obviously on the PGA Tour all players play the same course so you can reference each shot on the same hole for that day - you then compare strokes gained for each day across a week or season. How would it work in a GameGolf environment do you think? Do you generalize the approach across all courses as you won't have enough traffic to work out strokes gained according to the hole or course?

Really interested to hear your thoughts.

I think, but not sure, the baseline for Strokes Gained is all shots ever recorded by shot link, not just for that tournament. I think GG will use shots by scratch players as a baseline for strokes gained.

I, too, have no interest in the "Live" version. Apps making club recommendations have always been a deterrent in regard to most of the GPS apps out now. Seems like a cool idea but against the Rules I believe. Waiting to get home to upload and review my round is plenty good enough for me. What is more important than the "live" functionality would be an expansion of the data available and how it can be viewed.

My favorite part of the "live" version would be actually knowing how far a drive went after hitting it really well. It's not very useful but it would be a fun addition to a round, although probably not worth the upgrade.

I guess they will actually have multiple 'baselines' for different handicap levels. That way you can compare yourself to e.g. a scratch golfer, a 10 handicapper or 20 handicapper. Similar to what they are doing already with the normal stats.

Now, they're saying they are making a few final adjustments and it will be ready when its done but that you'll be "happy" with it.

I sure think they messed up with this release, and it smells like the accountants are running the show, since the new features are something that most users surely won't be paying another $150 to upgrade, let alone the $300 msrp. Won't be surprised to see the "live" version for $99 before long.

I "upgraded" to the Live version as I've had my original one since I funded it on Kickstarter years ago. A couple of my tags have broken from use so with the 50% discount they offered me, plus getting all new tags which I probably would have had to replace, it was really a no brainer. Plus the one feature that I always wished was there was knowing how far I hit that drive or how far that approach that just carried the bunker really went.

Its a fun toy for sure, hoping the strokes gained feature is accurate/helpful. I track my game using a strokes gained spreadsheet I made but that compares me to PGA tour players which is only so helpful....

Should be here in about a week.
