Dallas golf trip?

Hi,

My group was supposed to head to the RTJ trail in Alabama next week. The weather looks bad, so we are looking for an alternative. Dallas is about the same driving distance for us. Are there some good courses in that area that would be worth traveling to? Which ones? Anything else in NE Texas? Thanks!

Hard to find many bad courses in Dallas. My favorite has always been Buffalo Creek. And if you like Cajun food have dinner at Razoos.

Are there any resorts in the area that have multiple courses?

There's Las Colinas Four Seasons resort. Very expensive. I'd just play courses such as Buffalo Creek, Tennison (where Trevino worked growing up), Stonebridge Ranch, Texas Star, Lake Park, Sherrill Park,... All good courses and there are dozens of others. Just get a hotel close to Central Expressway in Plano, and have breakfast at Original Pancake House.

I would email or call always have specials included in the room rate.

Anyone have any insight on course conditions in the area right now? Do area courses aerify greens this time of year? is everything still dormant? Thanks!

Where are you staying?

A good time would be staying at the tribute hotel in lewisville. It's right on the course with tribute golf links and 200 yards away from old american golf links.

Oa in my opinion is the best new course in north texas.

Courses will start punching in the next few weeks. Pretty much everything is still dormant.

Indian Creek (Creek course) over seeds and I imagine Cowboys also does given the rate they charge. As said above most others still dormant.

idealgolfer.com ran a special this week for TPC Las Colinas for$129 any day. Might want to go to the website and see if it's still good.

Haven't played it yet but have heard many good reviews from friends. Trying to get a group to go down since they have lodging on site.

Pine dunes is a lot of fun but I haven't played it in 2 years so don't have current condition update.

In east Texas, you could also play Garden Valley, Links at Lands End and Twin Lakes within an hour's drive of Pine Dunes. Stanley's BBQ in Tyler is one of the top 5-10 places in Texas as well.

If we were going to play old american, tribute, and texas star, where whould be a good area to stay? We are prob just gonna get a cheaper hotel, 100 per night or less. Just looking for something with a resturant or 2 nearby, and that would be convienient for getting to the golf. Not familiar with the area at all. Are there still dry counties down there?

Have played it 4 or 5 times. One of the best courses I have played around here and has always has been in good shape but we wait until May or June. You do have to hit the driver straight as most holes are tree-lined. The on-site accomodations are nothing to write home about but are acceptable.

Another good place to play if you don't mind driving a little bit is Squaw Valley out in Glen Rose which is out west from Fort Worth. Two very fun courses to play and usually in good shape.

Courses around here won't be in great shape unless they have overseeded and you definitely want to check their aerifying schedules. The course where I am a member is aerifying this week.

I'd also suggest Grapevine Municipal. 27 holes, very reasonable, and one of the best munis in the area. Grapevine is one of the municipalities that border DFW international airport. Grapevine Muni is next to Cowboys, and while it isn't as nice, is 1/4 the price.

Thanks for all the help all. We are getting it hammered out. Staying at a hotel in The Colony next to top golf. Playing Old American Thursday and Tribute Friday. Saturday still up in the air. Thinking of Texas star but looking around to see what else is around the area north of dallas.

Personally I'm not a big fan of Indian Creek. On the lakes course there are quite a few dog legs and the fairways are lined by thick trees. If you don't find the fairway your pitching out. IMO Coyote Ridge is a better course if your looking for one in that area. One of my favorite courses in the area is Ridgeview Ranch. If your staying in The Colony by TopGolf your only about 15 minutes away on the 121 Tollway.

Pecan Hollow is an interesting course too

I would take Texas Star over Indian Creek. Haven't played it since they renovated but have heard positive reports.

Is the tour 18 any good?
