Hmmmmmm.....I thought he new cover was supposed to be harder, therefore less spin and such. This sounds like it may be softer and sheer more.

I dont like the new cover, I have a set of tour spec irons and they tend to leave groove marks across the new cover, tried the new Nike Platinum and liked it more. No groove marks, further distance, nice spin and great feel when putting.

To me, the new x didn't have the "snap" off of the face that last year's did... Also with short irons/wedge shots, the trajectory is like the ball goes up and out great, then just stops and falls straight outta the sky... I'd say on the short irons it's 5 yards shorter...

Yes, I have played the New Pro V1x. It spins less and is about 5-8 yards longer with the driver, but only a little longer with the irons. It has a great soft feel that Prov's are famous for as well as responsiveness around the greens. If you thought that the old pro V1x almost had TOO LITTLE spin for you then back down to the pro V1.

The old pro V spins too much and flies too high and after playing the new X today....I'm not impressed. It spins less than before and feels much harsher to me. It may be a few yards longer than the old X but that's neither here nor there as it was plenty long before. The feel is gone and that's the bad part.

Oh well, mayber time to try the Nike Platinum or the HX Tours or the new Brigestones.

I have just bought a sleeve of the new ProV1x's. Normally I play the HX Tour and Nike Black because of the excessive spin of the ProV1 and the X. I have however spent the past few weeks playing the Nike Platinum. The balls performance is pretty decent but it lacks feel and sound off the club.

Maybe you need to swing the driver at 130mph to fully appreciate the Platinum but with my speed of 121, I did not like it at all. I much prefer the Nike Black HX Tour. If the new ProV1x is similar in playing character to these two I am sure I will enjoy it.

The new ProV1x is a rock. I do not like it at all. When I play a ProV1, I will use either the last ProV1x model or the new ProV1 because it is the same thing as the old X

Wow. I can't believe all the bad feedback about this ball. I swayed from the Prov1 line and tried a bunch of others. Eventually I came back to the new ProV1x. I love it. Great distance off the driver, good trajectory and feel off the irons, plenty of spin with the wedges, and I love putting with it.

5 out of 5.

I am too cheap or poor to play these balls all the time ( i would rather play a cheaper ball and just replace it more often )

What i did find with this ball was similar to others. The cover marked up easily (maybe i just noticed more because of price per unit)

The one thing i did enjoy it was the feel it produced where it counts... on the green with the putter. It reminded me of the old titleist balata cover balls of about a decade ago. Nice soft feel...

just a litte too pricey for me :drinks:

I'm with you swingblade. I have still got a couple of boxes of 04ProV1x's left and am dreading the day they run out. I play in a lot of amateur tourneys and will have to find a replacement ball for next season. The 05ProV1x just felt too firm, I never got the feeling of fully compressing the ball on full shots. It 05 curves less and has a 'Pinnacle' feel off the putter.

I am trying the BlackMax, B330 and B330s.

i don't like the new prov1x either. it seems that the first few times you hit it with the driver its longer than the old x, but it wears out too quick and just feels horrible even after one or two holes. the nike balls are catching up to titleist in my opinion and bridgestone is doing well.

Not true.......two threads were merged and somehow the original dates got absorbed and reflect '05 post dates. However, this thread is meant to discuss the '07 ProV1x's.

Thx, Cardo

this topic was started in 2005, so the negative feedback on the new prov1x is actually about the old prov1x

For me,I never cared for the pro v1.Maybe it's pschyological?? Im not a scratch golfer like most of you guys around here either though.I play to about a 10 {I miss too many greens} and I play and love the Callaway HX tour ball. The 56 is better around the greens but I just have NEVER played well with a prov1.I hit and love their driver's {I play a 905 8.5} and wedges but I think it more of the ball not liking me than me not liking the ball.

I do love this site though!! Im new here and love it!!Been looking for a site like this one fer a long time!!

I have been flip-flopping between the Pro V1x and the HX Tours all year and the winner is HX Tour. nice soft feel, bite a bit more off the wedges and short irons, a bit longer off the tee for me, and a good boring trajectory.

I think that this ball is an absolute piece of crap compared to the 06 model. Into the wind it is probably the worst premium ball out there for me. Just balloons straight into the sky, can't really hit a low, boring shot with it into a strong breeze. I also shred it a lot more with my wedges, which really doesn't make any sense from what it's supposed to do. I liked the seemed model better.

I am a little surprised at the negative feedback on the 07 ProV1x. I just put it in play after finally exhausting my remaining 06 balls. Honestly I don't really notice that much of a difference. Maybe just a tad longer with the driver, but nothing to get hysterical about. I use this ball because I don't want the "stop and spin back" 10 feet going on with my wedges into greens and this ball handles that quite well. I get a "drop and stop" shot unless I really hit down hard with a lob wedge and then I might get it to spin back a couple of feet.

As far as feel, if this is "a lot harder" than the 06 version then I guess I don't have the ability to detect it like other posters. I simply don't notice any difference in terms of feel using this versus the previous version. Certainly it is harder than Nike's Platinum One...tried a sleeve last year and they had way too much spin for my swing. If you are looking for a soft ball, the ProV1x is not terrible, but it was not designed to be a soft ball. If you are looking for something you can spin all over the place, again, this wasn't designed to do that, thankfully!
