$500-600, just a guesstimate - depends how much someone wants it and doesn't care about the mods

Interesting, thinking of getting it refinished to black, that doesn't seem like too much of a loss...

It might not seem that way, but the putter will no longer match the COA (unless it's possible to have them issue a new one). That's a big deal to a lot of collectors. Heck... some of them see it as a hit to the value if the paint fill colors don't match what's on the COA.

The name/initials will be the biggest hit to the value. You'll be narrowing down the resale market to people who either don't care about the stamping, or have the same initials as you. Personally, when dropping a few grand on a collectible putter, I wouldn't wan't someone else's initials on it... but that's just me.

All that said, if you plan on keeping it for the long term, then who cares... make it your own!

My understanding is they can re-COA it, if they couldn't I think that is a dealbreaker.

I echo what others have said. If you just refinish and get it re-COAd then I think you'd be ok. If you get initials stamped on it though it would affect the value either way though IMO.

I won't buy a Tour putter with someone else's name or initials on it........................unless it's Tiger Woods.

I did that once years ago and it bothered me every time I used it. Took a loss when I sold it, but it was worth getting rid of. Swore that I'd never buy another putter with name / initials on it, unless they were my initials and the price was dirt cheap.

Having it refinished in black won't be a big deal, especially if you purchase a new COA. If the face is in good condition, I would ask them not to re-mill the face (as mentioned above), but it is totally up to them on whether the face gets re-milled or not. They make sure that you know it's THEIR CALL on the face getting re-milled (of course you could always cancel the order if they say they need to re-mill the face).

Put your initials on the weights, they are easily changed out.

Putting initials on the head would require welding and refinishing to restore to previous condition, which would not be cheap at the custom shop.

Can they do that at the SC CS? Not sure I have seen an option for that.

Yes. They charge an additional $100 (unless it went up in price) to weld over initials plus the cost of a refinish (290.00). Plus tax and shipping both ways, plus whatever else additional (grip, headcover, etc).

Should have been more clear: I was specifically talking about putting initials on the weights, I have never seen that.

The more modern style Scotty weights, or the ones with a big circle T in the middle, wouldn't have much space to put initials. Whenever I personalize a Scotty putter using the weights, if it doesn't have the older style flat weights, I simply get a spare set of the flat weights (either original Scotty or aftermarket) and stamp those. I save the original weights should I ever need to return the putter to its original configuration.

I don't see why the Scotty Custom Shop would refuse to stamp on weights, but then again, there are other things they won't do either.

A gamed Rat isn't a collectors piece. Don't stamp your initials unless you're never going to sell it. Refinish won't hurt the value if it's done by the CS. Value will just depend on how much you play it afterwards.

Honestly if it's your gamer I'd consider DIY with Caswells SS blackener or aftermarket. The CS has gotten outrageously expensive.
