Do they actually close for the season in Iowa? I'm in KC and our courses don't shut down since we get some decent weather throughout winter. They just close the course on days when the weather doesn't cooperate (like most of January).

depends on course and year, played a lot in March 2 years ago, was later April this past season, plus some places open earlier.

With the only exception possibly being the absolute cream of the crop public courses (i.e. Harvester before it went private), I'd say it's fairly safe to assume that if the weather looks playable to you that most courses would be open.

Yep....I golfed 18 holes (@ Eagle Hills) about 30 days ago. Iowa and Nebraska should have very similar policies...

Depends on where you are in Iowa and what the course's policies are, no set answer.

I played 9/18 two days in Iowa City last March on one of only two courses open in the area those days, others had been closed for the winter and were still staying closed - of course, shortly thereafter nobody was playing golf much of anywhere in April. Played Riverside in Iowa City in March once - 30 mph winds/44 degrees - it was cold but I wanted to play. Have played Finkbine in IC on a sunny March day with no wind and 45 degrees and it was wonderful/same another year 60 degrees. All sorts of scenarios.

Seen heavy, wet snowflakes at the Drake Relays in April. Played golf on New Year's Day in southeast Iowa once - 50 degrees but had to stay off the greens.

Only thing for sure is March is a lot closer than it was yesterday!

Just have to hope for the best and get out when your personal weather meter says "go"!

Unfortunately it's now March and it doesn't look like we're anywhere closer to golf season. Looking like at least middle of April before everything melts and dries out. I hate winter.

keep us posted please. a ton of snow in Minnesota

It looks like the dead of winter here in Dubuque, not March. Huge piles of snow/ice everywhere, -8° tomorrow night, single digits next week and if we’re lucky, it might get to the low 30’s by next weekend. It’s going to be a LONG time before the ground clears enough to play

It's pretty far south but you could try Spirit Hollow in Burlington, Iowa. Really nice course and from their website it looks like they have some good winter stay and play options that include unlimited use of their Trackman. A little ways off so a lot could change but the extended forecast for next weekend (22nd - 24th) looks favorable.

Edit: Looks like TPC Deere Run opens March 22nd or looks like Blue Top Ridge in Riverside, IA is open year-round and is located at a casino. I haven't played Blue Top but heard it's nice.

I live in NE Iowa, 1hr N of Dubuque. We probablly lost 2/3 or more of our snow in the last two days. Temps forcasted near 50* for next week. As of last week, the frost was still 18" deep.

most anything other than plow piles is mostly gone, was 58 and rainy Wednesday, that tore it up. We now have some sunny, breezy weather that should help finish the thaw and drying up.

I fully expect to be on Legacy or somewhere else next weekend.

Again, I plan on calling a few places in and around the QC, but snow seemed minimal a month ago, by now a few spots could be opening?

Anyone near Davenport or Bettendorf have any insight?
