Anyone add tension?

I know there is a post up asking how to remove tension, not trying to make a joke post. I haven't been able to do my normal vertical swing due to my shoulder, I was on range practicing little half swings trying to learn how to golf again and was getting super frustrated. After a fruitless 50 or so balls I got pissed, took a death grip of the club, felt like I flexed every muscle in my upper body, ended my back swing at what felt like my waist then dug in my left heel and swung as hard as I could. Not sure how the contact felt to me other than a solid THUD and the ball was gone, I've never seen my 9 iron fly so high and fast as today.

 

Not sure of the longevity of this adventure but from now on I'm flexing and swinging as hard as I freaking can.

People would be shocked how firmly tour pros grip the club.

Sam Snead’s quote was sarcastic and missing the second part.

Grip the club like a bird.......an eagle trying to get away from you.

You don’t want the tension in the neck and shoulders, but grip should be firm.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Absolute key is to grip firm but have loose wrists. Seems impossible..only if your grip is incorrectly. If you have a fundamentally sound grip you will find your finger ligaments grasping the shaft securely but the wrists are as loose as a sailor's mouth

maybe not exactly what you're talking about, but whilst learning/ingraining new movements, sometimes i'll flex/engage the muscles used to perform the new movements during slow mo swings. then i'll make a slow mo swing without adding tension to see how it feels. have spent a lot of time doing this in front of a mirror.

@Tax77 Playing with a death grip can give good results in the beginning, but generally it will break the grip down at least in my experience.
What I try to have firm in my swing are my inner right leg and right upper arm at the beginning of the swing to ensure my left side initially turns around these "immovable objects"

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

 

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

starting at setup, I lightly push the club via pressing my trail thumb pad onto my lead thumb. Not pushing the club into the ground. Maintain this thru backswing. I use both a smart ball and gravity fit and this is a feel I get from both. Helps with width, not over cocking wrists, and keeping arms swing synched with pivot (and not having arm overrun, and maintaining arm structure. At the top it feels like you are trying to push the grip into the sky. Can have relaxed forearms, elbows, and wrists and still have this bit of tension.
