Maxfli U Series

We all know that Dicks has announced that they are scaling back their emphasis on golf which was highlighted by the release of their PGA Professionals at their stores. They have released a new Maxfli Soft Ball but they are having a fire sale on the U series - all half price on-line. I found the U3 to be a great ball for my game, and others have raved about the U4 and U6. They killed the U2 after one season, so I am wondering about their intentions. Are they dumping last year's inventory to make room for new models? Are they throwing in the towel on the U series and staying with their new soft ball and 2 piece offerings? None of the above?

It would be a shame not to buy a good 3 piece durable urethene ball like the U3 which is typically available for about $20 - $24 ($15 right now). I know some of the U4 lovers feel the same way about their ball. Does anyone have any insights or opinions? I have no problem buying from Dicks but it is one of the problems buying a retailer manufactured product when manufacturing is not the core of their business.

I've always considered the Maxfli balls but never actually had the chance to put them into play. If one does fit your game and they are having a 50% sale it would be a great time to buy 10-12 dozen or more if your finances allow it. Keep them inside (not out in a unheated/air conditioned garage) and they will last for 5-6 years without a change in playability.

Ugh, another "soft" ball.

I hope they do come with another line of urethane balls; maybe they could streamline the offerings as 5 different models is a bit much w/ the u6/x/lc, u4, u3. I really like the cover of the u6, great into the wind, stable ball flight; maybe offering a 4 pc. and a 3 pc. and if they must a low compression option.

I'm stocked up on u6lc's and u4x's, xv's, and other misc, so I'm good for a year + :)

Thanks for the heads up on their sale. I ordered 1 dozen each of U-3/4/6/6LC. Was considering Rocketballz Tour for $24.99 and TF Gamer Tour @ 2 for $35 but held off because a few days ago I ordered 2 dozen MG Tour C4's. Still searching for "my ball" for this year. Sticking with urethane covers.

Hope someone here can help me on the U-Series. I've played the Gamer Tour balls and liked them pretty well, even if they scuff easily. I like urethane covered balls and really like getting a great price on these type balls.

How or what U-series balls compare with Gamer Tour. If the U-Series is going on a deep discount sale, I might have to buy a few dozen even though I've got enough golf balls on hand to last me for a few year......like the next 10 :)

I have played the Gamer Tour and it is a very good ball that I played for an entire season. However when I tried the U/3 I was much longer (90mph SS) but with somewhat less spin than the Gamer Tour, but plenty for my game. The U/3 also has a more durable cover which is the same cover as the U/4. Of course distance will vary by swing, but it was a game changer for me and I switched from the Gamer Tour to the U/3. Sorry I cannot help you with the U/4 or U/6 series, but there are plenty of comments regarding them on this forum.

I agree...u3 would be the closest replacement...if you do try the u6, get tnr lc model....u6 and u6x are very firm.

I really liked that U3. I think it has exceptional spin on short chips and pitches And didn't find it lacking distance.

Thanks for the heads up NJ! My son and I are headed out to shop for him and you just Put Dick's on our radar.

The u 3 and u4 are really great balls. I have nothing but good things to say about them. Golf is much a religion, is as much there is a feel to ones acts and/or habits. I enjoy getting to the first tee and pulling out a new box of 3 balls. I love walking to the green, putting my glove in my left back pocket, putter head cover in my right pocket, fixing my ball mark and then 3 putting. :) Being able to spent 17.50 for a top quality ball enables me to play new sticky balls is nice. The u4 out preforms all balls in 2014 for me. I may lose 5 or ten yards over distance balls, and maybe 2 yards next to a prov1, on my drive, but I love the soft feel and spin. I play golf for me, my handicap has moved form a 2 to a 7 when I moved from game improvement clubs to forged blades, but I love the feel. I play for fun, this makes it more fun for me. If I played for score alone I would play a 3 piece ball like Nike Vapor of Bridgestone e6 and go back to clubs that have ping pong paddles at the end. That's just me. The u3 at 65 compression, the u4 at 85 with the same cover are great winter/summer balls respectfully. I love the older Wilson fg tour, the 2014 is a great ball but does not have as soft a feel, even if is 4 points higher compression, the cover must be a little harder.

Just bought some of the U4s for $17.50/dozen. It's a great ball. I was really impressed with the feel, distance and spin. I may be heading out for more. These are definitely worth a try.
