Disappointed in networks' coverage

WILLY6

Recommended Posts

I am just going to throw this out and see if i am the only one on this planet that feels as i do.

I am totally turned off by the networks endless down the line ball tracer shots...and the announcers

comments on the flight of the ball...they seem to be facinated with swing planes...i am not. i just wish

that some how the net works would show how the golfer is setting up to the ball, i.e. where are the

hands in relation to the ball, where the ball is played in stance..ok, we know basically where with the

driver. i want to see tilt of spine and grip...all the basic fundamental of playing the game.

sorry for the extent of this, that's all i got.

Ever watch the Konica-Minolta, Biz-Hub, Swing Vision? (whew! that's a mouth full!)

It's better than the camera man zooming in and showing the flight of the ball on every shot. TV golf was really lame in the 1990's. I like the pro tracer.

These days the golf action is NOT exciting for most TV viewers. I guess the networks are trying to jazz-it-up.

It might take them some time to get it right, I suppose.

For the time being - let's be disappointed about something we can control. Such as, how our normal human flora is being thrown off by all the chemicals they are putting in our foods.

to improve televised golf....remove the zoom button on every camera. tired of seeing the extreme closeups of the ball rolling towards the hole, in the sky, etc. give me wide angle shots that shows the entire green, entire fairways, crowds, player reactions to putts falling. cameramen are killing the atmosphere and the ability to acutally get a feel for the hole layout with the need to zoom

I like the pro tracer because I, like you, can't see the tiny golf ball flying through the air for hundreds of yards.

But, I REALLY dislike the inane prattle of people like Gary McCord who seems to think he's the reason we're watching golf. I could not care any less what any of the announcers think. I only want to watch the contest, not hear some expert tell me what to think or what I'm seeing.

Show me anything other than the two foot putt that is a 99.99999999999% lock of going in. Or guys walking around the greens. Or off the greens after they made the two footer.

I wish they would show the pro tracer from overhead. That would be awesome. Pro tracer from behind is a waste of time since the landing area on the screen is tiny. No point to it.

I don't care what you think based on your time on tour before the dinosaurs stopped picking up your golf ball.

And stop inventing relevancy for everything. I don't care if someone is the fourth youngest player to pick his nose while scratching his nuts with a putter over his shoulder.

Just show me the damn golf.

This thread proves people will never be happy. ProTracer is a technology that actually gives you a clue about what just happened instead of just watching a player posed in his follow through leaning and yelling "go left ball". It shows the path, the curve and the distance; all things that are unattainable to the viewer without it. That being said, some people don't like that, apparently they would rather sit there and wonder while they admire the golfers pose. Makes no sense.

Networks assume golfers make up a large percentage of their total viewership for broadcast golf and try to entice us with shot trackers and "free golf lessons". I like the technology and it is certainly better than listening to McCord's bad jokes.

I prefer to watch golf in Standard definition with the sound off. I don't want crystal clear coverage, and I certainly dont want to know where the ball is going.

But I also try not to watch the PGA Tour coverage. If I'm going to watch golf, I really want to focus on the mini tours. I'm a real golf fan and don't just watch the superstars. In fact, I haven't watched a major since 1995 because Tiger was getting too much coverage.

This might be what you want to see but a large majority of fans watching do not. Just like basketball, baseball hockey etc, people actually watch these sports and do not play them.

Imagine watching an NBA game and they focus on Curry's jump, arm extension and his release instead of the shot going to the basket? This is what replays are for and they do that in golf. Shot tracer is one of the best things that ever happened to televised golf. If you were talking about the tracer the NHL tried.... I'd offer you a can of Molson Canadian. The difference is... you cant see the golf ball on TV without the tracer.

Like the above poster said .... no way to please everyone. Literally impossible.

I actually like the pro-tracer stuff. Kostis biz hub stuff is actually kind of interesting from a swing point of view. What I find boring is the putting.

Lets be real. Golf is not exactly NFL exciting. Commentators are probably doing their best to make a somewhat boring sport into something tolerable to the general audience.

My solution. DVR. Fast forward to the parts I like. Mute button. Problem solved.

When I watch a bit of golf, the European Tour coverage was far better by focusing on the country, courses and fans. We get to truly follow the players round by watching most of their shots, including layups, as if we were there by the ropes. I enjoy the split screen, Pro Tracer and course flyovers of where they ended up off the tee and what decisions for their approach shots. In comparison to the PGA, who focus making everything a celebrity driving and putting contest. Golf is ultimately boring to watch, but I hate it less when I don't have to listen to the likes of Johnny "Boy I'm Good" MIller and Brandel "Listen to My Nonsense" Chamblee
