2019 Rules of Golf

Saw this. Thought I’d add it to this section. And the Varner rule , as it turns out, is the wrong place after further reading. Since you can’t delete posts anymore it’s still there. Disregard. Here it is.

Anybody know where to read this as an amended rule ? As in where to find all the verbiage ?

Thanks ^. Found it.

Question. It says “ except in cases of abuse “. Why not say “ broken in anger etc” like it used to? How do you guys define abuse ? Will it include breaking against a tree for a shot ? That’s abuse in my book. But is also during course of play. Seems unfinished. Also says that if the face is obviously deformed you may replace it. But not for just a crack. Hmmm. Both cases are unusable for same reason. Face failure. Why the distinction ?

Anyway. So this is a local rule supposedly in effect for Augusta.

Apologies if this has been covered already, search may not have indexed the post, or it hasn't yet been discussed...

(Edit: looks like pic no longer works) It's the Pic from 19.3 showing the four options for relief)

19.3 allows relief from a bunker. One option of relief out of a bunker under penalty of stroke and distance is to drop from spot last played. (See image above, #1).

Another option under penalty of 2 strokes is to drop out of the bunker inline with the flag (#4).

My question to the gurus: what if the previous spot played, for example, was #4 in the above image? Is it one stroke under S&D or two strokes?

**18.1 Relief Under Penalty of Stroke and Distance Allowed at Any Time**

At any time, you may take stroke-and-distance relief. Once you put another ball in play under penalty of stroke and distance, your original ball is no longer in play and must not be played. This is true even if your original ball is then found on the course before the end of the three-minute search time.

Taking the two stroke option is most useful if you have already tried and failed to get out of the bunker.

S&D is really of no use as your drop would be back in the bunker.

This new option now frees you from having to stay in the bunker for the rest of your life unless you do manage to play out.
