Best way to play Pinehurst 2 as a single?

What is the most inexpensive time to play Pinehurst 2 as a single and how to you go about it. I only live an hour from Pinehurst so it would be a day trip.

winter is cheapest ... i do not know the exact price, but for some reason $300 sticks in my head ... call a day or two ahead of time to see if there are times available ...

always been a bit surprised they don't drop the price a bit in july/august ... it's hot as blazes in nc during that time, and i have to believe traffic is lower ...

FWIW, I'm doing the same thing in March except I have to travel halfway across the country! Planning on playing #2 the week of March 15-21. Since I am not staying at the resort, I have been told you can call a day or 2 in advance for tee time. Shouldn't be too hard to get on, that time of year. Pinehurst has a calendar on their website telling you what days each course is available, that may be helpful to you. When you get back from your trip, post a review here.

The least expensive way to play is as a guest of a member. I see $305 as the rate listed in the winter season, I think our friends said it was "only" $195 if we play with them as their guest. But members are restricted to some extent as to when they can play each course, so it takes a bit of advance planning.

To prebook as a single at any course, look at their on-line tee time system, to see what days have a spot for a single, if they show the number of golfers on their system.

 

Of course you can call and ask what is available, but you can analyze what's available better if you can see it yourself. Then when you call you know the options.

Doing this blind, you might end up with 8:00, when there are spots at 10 + 12 or the reverse of that.

I also like to join up with a twosome instead or a threesome, if possible.

How sad, playing a top golf course as a single. I played #2 with a group of seven other guys. We had a blast, we took pictures, and two years later still talk about it. We are all going to Streamsong in a few weeks.

 

There is a reason some always play alone. Never had that problem, what a joy to experience this game with friends and family, and have those memories to cherish for many years to come. My sympathies to those who play so many rounds alone.

For the months of January and February, accompanied guest play is $100 for #2 and $75 for #4... If you live that close, a last minute trip when the weather is good is a no brainer. Just need to find a member (I may be able to help ?).
