Recommended Posts

Good question, I'd like to see more of the Sr. Tour guys WITB!

I'm sure Freddy is still using the BStone irons.

Yes indeed. Last report I saw had him playing the J15 Dual Pocket Forged. I know for several seasons he played the J40 DPC previously.

I was at the hoag (his last tourney) before the shutdown. Followed him all 3 days

-He ditched the tour edge and went back to the M3 driver and had one of the new tensei av raw (blue) shafts

-same squareway fairway and tm rescue he’s had forever.

-he has the j40 dpc Irons but like the poster above said the stamping on them says “j15” but they are the j40

-vokey wedge s grind and an old tm TaylorMade atv wedge

-an old m2 hybrid (All black) with a diamana s+ shaft and I’m not sure of the other hybrid but it has the orange ad di shaft

-bettinardi putter

Nice work spotting the undercover J40 DPCs! That says a lot about how good that club is. The J15 version with the “Turbo Rubber” looked a lot different.

Tour Edge has made a major push into the Champions Tour. It's tour advisory staff consists of Lehman, Waldorf, Petrovic and McCarron. And from the younger set, women's long drive champ Phillis Metri.https://www.touredge.com/tour

Funny story on Duffy Waldorf. At the 2013 Senior PGA at Bellerive in St. Louis, Waldorf showed up at the putting green. One of the lean, tanned old pros from Texas greeted him. "Duffy, are you here caddying fro someone?" Duffy said, "No, I'm now old enough to play with you guys."

He def had the yellow ball and based on all the Bridgestone ads he’s been in he says he is playing the rxs.

I was also at the first round he ever put the Yellow ball in play, which was last years 2nd or maybe third round at Firestone. When he first switched to the yellow ball at Firestone he was switched to the yellow xs but this year when the new bstone balls came out he switched to the rxs.

Looks like there was a great article covering his current gear:http://www.golfwrx.com/605890/golfwrx-insider-an-exclusive-look-inside-the-bag-of-fred-couples/?fbclid=IwAR1R-Vf2jToot9cGaGNWNG9hG2qI5IZKOnkEfhC9VxrUCP9RT9xQGizEVFA

Some interesting notes:

Tensei AV 75TX, nice! That is the third different Tensei Blue type shaft i've seen him play. He had the Tensei CK Pro Blue with the retail paint job first, then the standard paint job, and now the AV TX version. Those Bridgestone irons do not look the same as the J40's. The sole stamping is the J15 font and the pocket cavities appear smaller. That wear mark on the 60*! Freddie knows what he wants out of that club.

Irons are definitely not the J15 — no Turbo Rubber — or the J40, which has larger, symmetrical pocket cavities. It looks like the J38 DPC to me. The pocket cavity size and location is exactly the same as the J38. It just doesn’t have “Dual Pocket Cavity” stamped on the sole like the original.

The article says all of those Bridgestone pocket cavity irons are identical except for the stamping, but they’re not. Not even the same size heads. Couples won right away when he first put the J38 DPC in the bag, then played the J40 DPC for years, so interesting he went back to the older one.

Ah good catch! Yeah no one would mistake those for for anything "J15" for sure, but I didn't think to look backwards. The pocket cavities sure are a match for the J38. Maybe with all the upgrading/updating he did with the driver he had to restore balance to the universe by moving backwards with the irons! ?

Perhaps, but that is not what Couples did. He changed heads. He had stints with the real J38 DPC and the he played the real J40 DPC. I don’t know if he ever played the J15 DPF, but he played the first two versions. Won a lot with each of them.

They are actually J38 Dual Pocket Cavities you can tell by where the pockets lay.
