How to start your putter

Whatever you do naturally. For me backswing is right elbow and shoulder focused. Downswing is right elbow and hand focused. Some people are left dominant some are right and some are blended. I tried left hand low for awhile but could never find consistency with my speed because I was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

 

If you are having trouble because your are overthinking try to just make your putting stroke counting off by thousands. Each stroke should start and finish in that single count. Do it for a few counts focusing only on the time. Once you are in a rhythm you can then bring your attention to your feel if you need to.

I don't putt left hand low but back of left hand starts mine, I try to keep right hand quiet

Parts that match. I tried it for awhile thinking it was a panacea but I realized that I didn't properly adjust all my mechanics and I ultimately would be battling speed issues for as long as I used it. I think this is why many left hand low guys find it necessary to go to conventional on lag putts. But it doesn't mean left hand dominant people should automatically go left hand low or that a right dominant can't. Like everyone my free time is limited and I didn't want to take the necessary time to try and ingrain it to be natural.

IMO it's the moment BEFORE the takeaway that enables the success of the takeaway... for me I feel the "floating of the putter"... it's just a split second of releasing the putter off the ground, then go...fwiw NONE of this is something I think of or control... it happens, the hands feel the whole weight of the putter and then I start to move the handle of the putter...

I use a TM Spider Ghost putter. You place it square behind the ball and simply take it back and forth. Never again have I thought about bacswing and follow-through. I do make sure I move the putter freely through with my right hand (dominant).

Way too many mechanical thoughts. Just think about rolling the ball on your starting line and that's it.

I pull the putter I towards me just a fraction like I would a full swing. It's like breaking static friction and moving to rolling friction. It unweights the moment so the head can swing without messing up alignments like a forward press can do.

Thought that always worked for me is thinking about taking the handle back and not the putterhead
