One round Oklahoma City where should it be?

I am traveling through okc on my way to St.Louis at the end of June. Looking for suggestions. I might have a in for oak tree but noticed senior open is there in mid July so looks less likely. Let me here some ideas

Oak tree mens is where the senior tournament will be. Oak tree cc is separate. My vote would be for jimmy austin. Thats the ou course. Good shape and a good test.

If cost is a factor, play Kickingbird in Edmond. Cheap and in good shape.

For some reason the private courses here are pretty tough to get on. Jimmy Austin is by far the best course you can definitely get on. Very nice and a good test

I second Jimmie Austin at OU down in Norman. One of the best courses in Oklahoma that a random dude can get on.

I'm heading to OKC next week from the 11th to the 15th. Playing golf during the day while my wife works. Looking for where to play mid morning every day 11th to 14th. Any thoughts, and anyone interested in joining in with local knowledge ?

Played Earlybird, north and south

Played Lincoln Park, east and west.

And my favorite, drove out to Winter Creek. About a 40 minute drive from dwtn.

I think was built to be private, but had to offer it up to public play. Very nice layout, greens in great shape. Tee boxes were not quite as nice, a little thin and a little less than flat.

But I liked it enough to play it on Thursday and Friday. Played on friday with a guy who lives in Edmund and he liked enough that he is going to recommend to his guys.

Thanks for the review. I had a great time at winter creek. Paid $25 on golf now. And the went and played Lincoln east and west.

Thought I'd chime in on this one in case anyone is interested in the future (played every course in OKC metro public&private, been playing in OKC my whole life). All below are my opinions:

 

Best Public Course in OKC Metro: Lincoln West

Best Private Course: Twin Hills CC - (Oak Tree National is great, I just don't like being beat down by a course like that)

Best Public Conditioned: Jimmie Austin

Best Private Conditioned: OKC Golf & Country Club

Worth the Drive: Winter Creek GC, Roman Nose State Park Golf Course

Gonna be in Luther visiting the in laws at Christmas, so interested if anyone else has thoughts on where to play? Will probably only have time for 2 rounds at the most.

We've got family coming in for Christmas and are bringing their clubs looking to play. It's really just hit or miss here during the winter. Last year was a perfect example, I played on Christmas Eve - great weather, about 60-65 with a light south breeze, then the next day on Christmas it never got above 35 degrees. Bring your clubs, just be prepared for unplayable weather.

Only true 9 holer is James E. Stewart, which isn't great but very cheap. I don't know what time you'll be here but all the city owned courses (Lake Hefner, Earlywine, Lincoln Park, Trosper), offer dusk fees starting at 2:30 pm right now I believe. It's getting dark around 5:15 right now so enough time to get in 9.

Kickingbird is another fun track. We played the State Jr Am there for several years in a row (may still be). Not very hard and enjoyable. Normally in good shape.

reviving old thread ,family will be stationed in Altus,ok starting july, would love to meet some fellow WRXers and play a round in okc or where ever, i drive for good golf. side note does anyone know how the course windy trails is on base or fort sill course. This Sooner is finally coming home after 30 years away fro. the state. born in broken arrow.

Welcome back! Never played Windy Trails or Ft. Sill. Lawton Country Club is decent I do know, and Quartz Mountain isn't bad down there either, I've heard bad rumors about conditions though. Your best bet for a really good round guaranteed would be to drive up to Duncan and play The Territory. Great course. One of my favorites in the state.
