What do you when perfect shape is scratched and epoxied?

I bought a club, pics were small, no big deal. Description was touting great shape, so what the heck. I get it, in the headcover I might add, and it was scratched (1/2" x 1/16") on the crown with epoxy on crown and face. What do you do? Seller wanted me to file a claim with the USPS! Ideas?

USPS didnt put the epoxy fingerprints on the head. Also I highly doubt USPS scratched the head if it was shipped with the cover on. It is the sellers responsibility to file a claim with USPS if there was damage. He is the one with all the recipts/labels in his posession, not you. Tell him to take it back/file a claim and that you are not happy.

if you paid paypal, file a dispute and take pictures to show them...get your jack back before you send him the club back...

 

if you paid with a money order, you are kinda screwed...i think you can file it as stolen, but thats only if he didnt cash it yet...

 

if you can live with the damage, ask for what you think is fair back...

Sorry to hear about this. This may not help woith getting your money back, but we still have a feedback system here, so at least others will be warned of the behavior from this seller. You have to ask for better pictures... always. You can tell a lot about a person just by asking questions about the item(s). I have stayed away form a few purchases solely on how cooperative the person was when asking for pictures and how they answered questions. Costs you nothing to send an email or 2.

 

 

 

I have had occasion to file claims with PayPal 2 times. Both times I got my money back within 30 days. Hope you paid this way.

I did. I usually don't ask for much info on this site. Most guys here seem to be GOLFERS, you know call the penalty on yourself and all that. Silly me!

P.R.--I would give him until the end of the day to refund your money or you will file a claim with Paypal and out him on WRX. There is no way USPS damaged the head regardless whether it had a headcover on it or not.

Unfortunately you can't get completely away from those guys no matter where you go. I have been lucky in that I have received some items that were disclosed as having scratches and not being perfect and arrived in better condition than I expected. I have tried to do the same in the things I have sold.

 

The only upside if you are forced to just take it is there are a lot of good refinishing options out there now if you like the club and want to make it look new again.

Well, the thing is whenever I buy something used, I ask for high res pictures to be sent. If the buyer says no then I assume there is a reason why that person will not send large photos and walk away from it.

That sucks big time. You definitely need to file a Paypal CLAIM. Paypal disputes dont do anything...its just talking.

I understand and commend you for assuming the best out of everyone, but when it comes to buying things online, it is always a case of "buyer beware"

 

I hope that in the end the seller does do the right thing and that you can walk away from this experience learning that it is always your right to ask for bigger pics as proof to what the seller describes an item as.

 

It is a shame that this had happened but with all the members WRX has, there has to be a very small percentage of bad apples.

I was being facetious about bsg but I understand your point of view. I deal the same way, tell me the truth and pictures are superfluous.

 

I had a guy request pictures on a new putter. I said it's new. He said he wants pictures. I've got over 10,000 posts on the site and he has like 200. So I gave him pictures. He bails on the deal. :tongue: It's shitheads like that, that give any forum swap shop a bad name.

I agree. I have a pretty good camera, and I shoot a hi-res photo as close as I can focus w/a 45MM lens and crop the picture in PSP to give a large, revealing picture of the club/head. Most guys on here, or any of the forums are not that good with a camera, so the pics aren't great. I just usually glance at'em and read the description!

Man, That's a bad reshaft. The ferrule doesn't fit the outside diemension of the hosel.

 

 

 

Epoxy: With a little elbow grease and Acetone. You should be able to get the fingerprint out.

 

 

 

The hosel scratch is from the reshaft, he slipped when he was pulling or cutting off the old ferrule.

Try Golfsmith Ti525W when you reshaft that thing. You'll have to slightly ream it to work with a .350 shaft, but the outside diameter will be about right with the Ping hosel.

 

That ferrule on there is horrible!

I missed the ferrule the first time around. Not sure how I could as it's a completely grotesque.

I am going to do my best to return this club to the person that sold it to meI don't mind buying a "chip and dent" club if I pay accordingly. But I paid according to his description and I want my money back. I can assume from all your comments that none of you believe this was caused by the Postal Service?

It wasn't a thumb ring print was it? That might explain it.

As others have said it's a poor quality reshaft and I suggest you have a close look at the hosel to see if the shaft is sitting straight in the head. Ping uses a collared ferrule on the G2 (and I guess the G5 too) and without that it's extra work to make sure the shaft sits straight in the head while the epoxy sets. I know this from personal experience.

I did not really care about the re-shaft. the shaft is scratched at the hosel and the seller was clear about that. I intended to pull that shaft and install one of several I have here. The PL Blue doesn't work for me. I did not intend on cleaning or trying to clean epoxy from the face and crown or send the head to Ping to refinish it to remove the scratch! Now I intend to get my money back.

That reshaft looks like it was done by my 7 year old. That's awful. What's worse is that somebody on this board actually sold that to somebody else. I'd be embarrassed to play that club, let alone sell it.
