Mike is a very good instructor. An Instructor that worked for me used to see him regularly and a current tournament player I coach also used to see him regularly. I really like how he gets his players into the backswing. Look at Zach Johnson and Jonathan Byrd. Two fantastic golf swings. IMHO he needs to expand on his downswing views. Arms first will help MANY but not everyone. I had someone that used to see him and was just way to square with his body in downswing/impact. He was doing exactly what Mike asked him to do. Arm speed in downswing. Fats, pulls, pull daws. No where near open enough at impact.

Good thoughts Brian

Those things could happen yes, but I think most people who are struggling really open up too fast and the hands arms lag and get behind and then they are screwed. They have to EE or flip at it to get to the ball. If they accelerated their hands and waited a second on the rotation they would be much better. Slgiht lateral with the hips first but save the rotation of the shoulders and the hips untll the arms get into the proper spot as Mike says. I think it's kind of a combo of Monte's cast drill nd his zipper away drill.

The cast drill gets you to fire the hands and the zipper drill keeps your shoulders back and closed/square so that you can rotate at the proper time. Improper timed rotation of the shoulders and teh hips can be bad news for most..

thanks
Joe

Definitely. I agree It certainly will help many. I personally don't think opening to fast is an issue as it's the opening out of sequence that is the issue. Arm speed is ALSO the issue in relation to the pivot. It's just not the ONLY issue. Have to learn to sequence it ALL together. I think arms is just ONE of those elements.

I agree, very interesting video. Reminds me of Tomasello's video on how the first move has to be down with the hands to get the right elbow back on the side.

I do wish Bender had addressed why, if Zach's swing is SO efficient, he is such a short hitter (by tour standards). Kelvin Miyahira, of course, did such an analysis. It seems that Zach isn't doing some of the things Bender advocates, keeping the hips rotating. Or maybe he is. Was it Bender who in the August GD advocated a hip stall and snap for more power? I seriously laughed when I saw that and couldn't wait for Monte to take it down. I don't think it's online yet, but when it is, may.

Lots of good info . I guess I should not worry about my weight shift & lower starting DS ???
There are so many ideas of how to properly swing a golf club I'm amazed !!

Tomasello 's [TGM] video was good and simple . Similar in thought up to bottom of swing . He is showing the
Centrifugal "release " where the arms straighten out past impact

Bender clearly stated that he prefers the Centripetal swing [keeping left arm -shaft @ 90* to spine all the way
back down & around .
To me the theory [fact] is great ,objects move faster @ 90* . But for me I'm not sure I'm capable of NOT releasing
club head at bottom .. Seems like it's a lot of power to waste - I like letting the toe work around the heel
Not flipping -left wrist is flat The move is closer to Tomasello's straightening of arms past impact .

I'm just trying to find a simple ,sound ,repeatable swing .
Very confusing info floating around
Bump hip , fire hips, drop hands from top , tumble move ,twisty move , S&T Pressure point
,levers, aim point, . etc. Not to mention ball flight laws from recent past are now considered incorrect
Whew ! How's a guy gonna golf his ball ??

I like his idea of not rotating too much until the hands get in the proper place, then the sequence is in order. Too many people throw it from the top with the shoulders or rotate the hips too soon on the way down and leave their arms OTT or trapped behind. He is not sayting there is no rotation, just make sure it happens at the proper time

I also like the concept of staright line delivery of the hands right to the ball with pivot in the videos it really shallows you out well

Wow, thank you for this video. I've always had trouble with my hips spinning out causing my shoulders to open far too early making me swing out to in. I've watched many videos on its fixes but couldn't get my shoulders to square at impact no matter what I did and after watching this video it instantly fixed my problem. ily :D

Since i saw that video, I've made a 100% commitment to replicate everything Mike says (until it doesn't work anymore ;)). I love the ideas and can easily understand them and most importantly, execute them. The issues I've dealt with my entire golfing life are summed up perfectly in his videos. I'm just upset it's taken me this long to find out about him.

Having said that, I have 2 questions -

Are there any "Benderized" instructors in Michigan?

And not to threadjack, and like I said, I've really improved some aspects of my game since incorporating Mike's ideas, but I'm having a difficult time getting the right elbow to the right hip. I KNOW you're not supposed to force it, and it happens naturally when other things are done correctly, but can anyone shed some light on what those other things are relative to Mike's teachings (or perhaps any other I suppose...)?

loved the video and bender has a smooth way of communicating which I really enjoy. As a player with a strong grip, this helped me to imagine a release thats right for my swing and grip.

42 mins of really good info, and I love how he is a proponent of not letting the arms and hands lag behind the body. It reminds me of Monte;s no turn cast drill. He explains lots of concepts very simply.

Efficient swing does not equate to Dustin Johnson like power and distance. I think you are missing the point, Zach is much straighter and more accurate because of a very on swing plane, back and through without a ton of lag and club snap or release.

Appreciate what Bender had to say about zeroing out #'s on Trackman.

Also, great stuff about sequencing, "firing" the hips at the right time is key. Now that I'm not firing my hips from the top I am becoming more and more of a CP releaser each day, I almost feel like Andrew Loupe!
