This is a great thread. I still putt with a 34" Mezza Monza with about 4 strips of lead tape on the sole. I just sold a Nubbins 34" in mint condition the 8802 style head. I also still have Fontana AGSI + head that I am looking to shaft up and give go.

I'm sorry....I should have noted that....

Yes, my two Spider putters have the surlyn insert...though a bit different in color...all black with white scoring lines vs the red/black combo I've seen more of.

Another difference I've noticed is that the mallets I've seen have a serial # but mine doesn't...but a local pro-shop did verify that they're legit, if that means anything.

Check out this Tour beauty... Notice the color, the two finishes (shiny on bottom and front face and matte on top to reduce glare). Also, has anyone seen a sole plate like this? It seems like it is part of the head and not a plate insert. Not sure, it looks extremely nice that is for sure compared to the retails models. The color of the face is different too. Does anyone know what type of material this insert would be since it is a different color? I just wish I could find this in left handed!

The insert is the 80/20 aluminum insert. It is standard the the Ghost Tour model, but you will find it in several different Tour Issue models. A really good insert. The chrome plate on the sole is a Tour Only only feature of the Spider Blade/Mallets.

The paint/finish you describe is not retail and could have been do to the request of the player or just a prototype. Sound really similar to the type of finish that is on the Ghost Tour Black retail putters.

Thanks Ed! Here are some more pics. It is for sure lighter in color and has a great polished finish like the old Kia Ma's from 2010 on the bottom and sides, not black like the Spider 2.0... Has a black shaft and Taylormade branded Golf Pride pistol grip at 35 inches.

Thanks and I agree! I was not sure about the Spider Blade until I felt it and rolled some putts! It is so balanced. Really nice the way Taylormade set up the putter. I really like the feel of it and was very surprised.

Looks similar to the finish of the Daddy Long Legs Tour Issue putters. If only those had the metal plate too. The plastic plate was, at least to me, a horrible mistake by TM. It made the putters feel like a cheap hollow toy.

You could put lead tape on the plastic to help with the feel, but it still never had that solid feel. Fortunately, they fixed it with the DLL+ model.

I haven't either! Script Rossa head with a single/double shaft. That never came to retail.

Just received my Ghosted Kia Ma Tour Flow neck, Rossa Daytona, not sure about the ghosting, may have it bead blasted and leave it raw. (similar to Ed's beauty)

I'm a mallet guy but I gamed a S.C. flow neck years ago so we'll have to see.

Love the milling and Script Rossa. Aside from the slight paint issue on the rear of the hosel this thing is mint, I really lucked out on this one.

while i've been fancying a tour issue TM putter, i've encountered more than a few—aka many many—different 'signifiers' and opinions of 'tour issue' TM putters all over.

 

some says it's blue paint-fill on the sole, some says the bird insignia on the face, some says 'tour' under Kia-Ma sign, some says 'tour' as a prefix of the each model variation on the sole, etc etc. yet more confused by 'Tour' notion in some model names + more 'modified' variations i.e) ported marks, drilled weights etc.

 

is there any 'identifier' of such 'tour issue' putter in TM, or all of the above is just what it is and you have to believe what it says?

tried my homework, google etc yet to find more logic. thought this post might be the lounge where the experts gather...

Not to over simplify, but the first things is anything that doesn't match the retail model. Could be a different finish, different alignment line, different neck or hosel. The Rossa badge is normally on the back cavity. If it is Script or lettering, that is a sign of Tour Issue or at least limited release. Some models were released with an insert for retail. And the same model might be made for Tour without. Or vice versa. Anything with Proto may even give the initials for whom it was made.

It really does come down to features that are not on retail models.

Sweet! Take it down to raw and have Labworxs murder it out or do black with silver paint fill would be insane :) just my thoughts... Jealous of you righties... All the good tour putters are always in right handed.

I've just bought this Rossa Daytona (seller's pics). Spent an age trying to find out exactly what model it was, given that it didn't fit in with any of the retail offerings.

 

Turns out that the seller got it off a tour pro, so question answered, I guess!
