New England Fall Fling (Vote!)

Imp

Recommended Posts

Time to put it together. Looking at the map, somewhere south of Worcester seems like the logical choice. Let's pick where and then we'll work out the 'when' when I know how many people would be playing on the choice of dates and course availability. :)

Here's the map of where everyone is and the four known decent courses are listed to chose from.

And the 'when' will be either Sept 27th, Sept 28th, Oct 4 or Oct 5. I left multiple choice for the votes, especially for the courses and the dates. Pick those courses and dates you can and want to play. :)

Edit: Please pick by the 12th as I'd like to get moving in calling the mentioned courses. (It looks ike when I edited this thread, it deleted the poll. Ugh. Please revote)

Go!

I'd like to play, but my schedule is kind of messy during that frame. Sunday the 28th would work for me, course doesn't really matter so much, but I voted for Blissful as I've never played there.

Thanks

Course doesn't matter much to me either as I have not played any of them, and it will great just to get out and meet some folks.

I already have something going on on the 27th. And will have family in town on the 4th and 5th.

I voted for Blissful Meadows or Blackstone. But would prefer Blissful Meadows as it is not carts required. It would be a bit if a drive but I'd go to Connecticut as well. Shining Rock is on my list of courses never to play again.

What happened to the votes? (not seeing them in this thread).

It appears the poll disappeared when I edited the original thread. So I had to remake the poll. (I opened a thread about it in the help forum). Sorry!!! :(

Please revote. I will not edit the original post any more (lesson learned).

It's ridiculously quirky. Just a really weird collection of holes. I live 10 minutes away and don't ever really consider playing there.

Never heard of Blissful Meadows. Sounds good to me. :-)

Blissful Meadows is OK, but Blackstone is a better layout. If conditions at Blackstone are good then it's a better choice IMO.

I posted the below on another thread a while back:

"Complaints (some are not anyone's "fault" - they just "are"):

Absolutely goofy layout

I prefer courses I can walk. this course would be unwalkable. This can be forgiven on some courses.

I don't like courses around subdivisions.

For $75 they probably should have a range. But since they probably don't have the room they at least should maintain the mats at the net better.

At least two holes were completely wrong on the scorecard and signs as far as distance is concerned. The 13th is labelled as a par 5 at 424 yards (that is goofy by itself). At the time I didn't notice the distance, only the par. So I had a good drive and being a short hitter, I never reach par 5's in two. So without considering it I pulled out a 3-wood to just play it up the fairway ( the green is up hill and hidden). I hit a nice shot and then heard something, but didn't consider it. Then one of the guys I'm playing with said, "you hit the pin!". I was like, "what? This is a par 5 I couldn't have hit the pin". He said, "no, I think it is a par 4 - right here is a marker that says 175". There is no way, ever that I hit a 250 yard drive. It just doesn't happen. Then the 18th is also labelled as a par 5 at 471 yards. My brother hit a pretty crappy drive and I commented about it jokingly. Then when we got to his ball he was right at the 200 yard marker. That would mean he hit a 275 yard drive. I said, "You hit that ball 150 yards, maybe." Who knows if others were mislabelled as well.

Not the courses fault - but I have never seen so many tees left in the ground - never mind laying on the ground, they were still stuck in the ground. Weird.

I didn't like the kid running out to grab my clubs and put them on the cart. I can do that myself.

Did I mention a totally goofy layout?

I don't like courses with too far between green and tee.

I'm sure if I gave it some thought I could find more complaints.
So for an 1 1/2 hour drive and $75 bucks I say with 100% certainty I will never go there again. I wouldn't play it again if I lived next door though.

By the way, pace was fine - finished in 4:15. "

WIsh I could fly home and join you guys!

I played Blissful Meadows a couple years ago and the course was good but we had a terrible experience with the Proshop and outside operations. I haven't played Blackstone but I have heard a lot of good things.

Enjoy the outing boys, should be a good time

Preliminary results looks like if I got 3 tee times for (9 people, 3 in each) at Blackstone National, we'd be covered? I'll be calling tomorrow afternoon. Just need to figure out if 27th or 28th works. :)

And I thought I'd be able to see the results of the poll, who voted what. Huh. I guess that didn't work either.

FUUUUUuuu

You're not going to believe this, but I got in this morning to an email that my coworker will not be able to make the trip to FL next week, that I am going. 22nd to 28th.

Ugh. I'll leave it up to you guys. 1st weekend in Oct? Or, go on without me on the 27th/28th?

Ok. I think I will push it back to the following weekend. There's nothing on the calendar the following weekend and sorry that we'll lose some. :(

I will call next week to make the tee time. Ugh. I'm really sorry guys (and gals if any).

Is that Tony's pizza still open near Blackstone!?
Absolutely. That place is great.

There's a lot of work going on at that intersection on 146. Adding lanes on both sides to let traffic get on/off 146 more easily so it doesn't back up so much at that light.
Yeah, about damn time. That intersection is pretty bad. And whatever you do, don't speed on that stretch from Worcester to where it becomes 65 south of the intersection (or vice versa). ;)

I also like what they did when they finally created the Rt 146 exit for the Mass Pike instead of having to take Rt 20 for a few miles and then 395 looping around. My wife (then GF) went to UMASS Amherst and I was on that road at least 3-4 times a month back and forth. Couldn't even imagine having to do that daily.
