That's the problem with these types of threads..for some, anything with a cavity is a GI club ( (debatable) and for others something in the AP1 range is considered a GI so practically every club in existence gets recommended. BUT, I read the last 2 sentences of the original post and wonder how an AP2 or an X forged can be suggested.

I agree... just find it necessary to point out the hypocrisy when given the opportunity...
Are AP2's considered game improvement?

LOL I knew you would come.... according to anyone bashing anything else they are..... to the OP to add another solid choice callaway X forged cant be beat
I was just curious. I don't follow all the iron argument threads here.

sorry should have worded that better.. I didn't mean literally you....but that someone would catch what I said.... just depends on which thread your in as to whether Ap2 are GI... I happen to think it depends on the game level...could be too much for some and too little for others

Want to play midsize to oversize irons but don't need a lot of offset. My consistent miss is left from face angle not path. My common issue is setting up with a slightly closed face. In my experience less offset helps set up square. I have had Apex but made a bad decision and sold them. Wouldn't mind them or something a bit larger. Any help is appreciated.

Scratch EZ-1 has very minimal offset. Feels like a forgy too.

Not forged, so you get some GI benefit, but slim topline and small offset you are looking for. Smaller size makes them more easily workable as well
Callaway Apex irons are fantastic and have little offset. If you are willing to spend $1000+, don't buy anything without trying these first. I dont think the Titleist AP1 irons have much offset either.
I haven't really hit the AP1 entire set, but I have a 4i in my bag and 5-W in AP2 and the AP1 has a considerable amount of offset -- compared to the AP2 that is.

Try get your hands of a tour issue set of Rocketblades Tour N-version.
The heads are smaller than retail, with thinner toplines and blade like offset.
This is wonderfull irons and it's a shame that TM never released them to the public. Also the face is milled and the whole clubhead is a softer casting than retail!
The size is almost like Titleist AP2, so maybe you will find them to small....

i doubt most people would consider AP2s to be game improvement. i don't see how that could be so.

I really should be compiling a list if people saying that to use as ammo in the next "blade vs CB/GI" war !! Its too funny the responses here VS the responses in other threads... I whole heartedly agree with you by the way AP2...NOT a GI iron in my book.... Mr Startzel would certainly disagree... LMAO.... anyway back to the topic at hand..... The AP1 should fit the bill the cheapest if you shop around..lots of those out there

Agree.

This topic is rehashed every month or so, and each new thread reads like the last; people recommending one players iron after another. Apparently a lot of people around here don't know what GI means.

AP1, G25, and JPX 825 are GI irons. AP2, J40DPC, Xhot2 Pro, and Rocketbladz Tour are not.

Would the MP H5 set qualify as GI? The design brief was to build an iron that had the appearance worthy of the MP badge but still offer ease of launch and increased MOI.

I currently have an MP H4 3&2 iron and find them quite forgiving. I also like the way the MP H4/5 sets are progressively more forgiving as the irons get longer. They should satisfy your eye for low offset.

as others have stated, it really depends on what you consider GI. If you consider AP2's to be a GI club, then either them or the new 850 forged are IMO the best out there.

If you are thinking true "GI"...you know what is kind of a hidden gem if you can still get? The JPX800 from Mizuno, not overly big, not a ton of offset, but definitely a GI in every sense

The H5 is definitely worth a look! The stock c taper lite shaft is nice too.
not sure what the OPs budget is but also with all mizuno irons any steel shaft is available at no charge

if he is looking to spend less i'm sure there are some H4s out there at a good price

Yep, this is a tough one. I guess the question is what do you consider very little offset? I think I can speak for everyone else who plays J40 DPC and say that it is the most forgiving iron you can find with virtually no offset. The second would be the RBZ Tour irons. They both have larger heads with higher MOI. The J40 has basically no offset and the RBZ Tour has very little. But if you want Super GI forgiveness I don't think you will find one with no offset. I think that maybe that would defeat the purpose as offset is one of the most important game improvement features of GI irons.

I would probably agree that the closest to what you want would be the Apex. The 714 AP1 is a great club, but still a fair amount of offset. Good luck!

That is why I put in the request for a bigger club head. I like everything about the G30 except the offset. Liking the current Covert 2.0 irons also. The Apex I had would be as small as I would like to go and in that set I only used 6-a. I can keep it under 80 pretty consistently but don't mind getting technical advantage.

apex is what he had

ap1 has more offset on the longer irons and less offset on the shorter irons vs apex

Sounds like your club desires mirror mine. Unfortunately, low offset GI clubs are not common though.

I agree about the Covert 2.0's (non forged version). They look pretty good for GI clubs. Not a fan of the killer long shafts though. If you have reshafting capability they could be a great option. At any rate, Budget Golf is blowing out a bunch of sets on ebay these days so you can score a good deal on a set of these.

Cleveland 588 TT's are another under appreciated set. Shafts are long and light too, so they are another reshaft candidate. Really nice GI clubs though, with progressive blade length and less offset than most GI clubs. The 4-iron is almost G-series large, but the shorter irons are less shovely. I played a set for a while and really enjoyed them.

Mizuno JPX-825's are worth looking at too. They are on discount these days so you can score a good deal. GI all the way, but less offset than some others like Ping G's. Not an ideal choice, but reasonable.
