Like I said, it's sort of a pet peeve of mine whenever someone shoots a round like that and the first thing everyone thinks is "bagger."

 

YUGE part of the joy of this club is that everyone *basically* knows everyone else. any sandbagger in our midst would be essentially stealing from his buddies.

 

besides the 72, the most impressive thing about dome's round was the 9 birdies over two rounds, all on different holes. unreal.

Given a second chance at it from the blue tees, I actually wouldn't hit driver on 12, or 14. Otherwise, bombs away with the big dog. 5 and 8 are just begging for you to hit driver. Like city said, coming in from the right on 5 is a money angle. 8 is wide F'ing open. You just have to shade left, to avoid that front bunker, and give yourself a good angle.

Even though I hit driver 28 times, I definitely hit a few bunts, including 6. But, that's more about the yardage than the width.

 

I've said this before, but IN GENERAL you should be getting the ball closer to the hole from 50 yards than 100 yards which would indicate "go for it" on 6, but on a hole that like that is straight up hill, that 50-60 yard shot can be hard to control your distance. I prefer that 50 yard shot when I can see the surface, and know where the ball is going to land. When you're coming into a raised green like that, it's hard to judge the angle of descent on the ball and how that affects the spin.

 

On 12, I hit a bunt R1 and swung away R2.

 

On 14, I swung R1 and made par, so I swung again. If I was in a one round stroke play tournament. . .I don't know. Maybe lay up short of that trap. But, from where I drove it into the hazard, you could also drop and should be able to make bogey, so it's not a horrible miss.

Oh ok, from the pictures, clearing the bunkers on #5 looked like it was 240ish, but at 200, yeah, I would have taken the big dog out especially now that I can actually carry it over 200 yards.

What line were you guys looking at from the blue tees on #5 with driver? Over the trees to the green? Or just to bail right and play from the rough? The whites looked down the hole with a better angle, but were also 10 feet lower than the blues.

but i also think you're wrong. any woman who takes the time to put on her eyeliner as carefully as she did, takes care of business. anyway, i kept bringing up darren aronofsky movies, and she looked at me like i was chunk doing the truffle shuffle.

I hit driver on every 4 from the white tees except #12. I will be doing that forever. The closer the better.

These were great lines. It was about 220 to cover the left bunker and I took the right bunker out of play, and I was looking right down the green. And, it would have been a bomb to get it over the hills where I couldn't see the green.

 

R2 was actually more over the edge of the trees with maybe a touch of fade.

Personal reflection post.

 

I didn't think my game was that bad, but wedge play needs work and as always, succumbed to a lack of focus. If anything, my driving is what cost me a bunch of strokes, outside of the 6th, I pulled hooked a drive left on 10 that resulted in a re-tee, hit a good drive into the water on 14. Following that, on both those holes, I hit the only 2 sh*nked wedges I had that day, and missed a short putt on 14 too. +5 on those 2 holes.

 

I have changed my putter stroke and had 39 putts, missing many short putts, but honestly, it didn't feel that bad. I'm getting long to mid range putts to the hole or past, but couldn't get comfortable on the short putts. The 4-jack on 17 was another focus/DGAF issue from 3 feet. Inside 4 foot misses on 7 holes. Regardless, I'm averaging more than 36 putts per round which is simply atrocious.

 

On 6, scene of the infamous Quintuple Bogey I should have taken an unplayable after the second failed attempt to chip out. And again, followed that disaster by 3-putting after hitting the green. Every stroke counts, but it's like once I get in trouble on a hole I lose focus and waste another shot or 2.

 

Interestingly enough I was -1 for 11 holes, and +17 on the remaining 7 holes, including +12 on the back nine for 6 holes, so it wasn't only the quint that did me in.

I should have taken pictures of the various lies I had on the 6th. Domes found my ball and I said "Oh good" and he was like "Yeah, I'm not sure if that's a good thing..."

 

First spot was behind a rock, on a bed of dead leaves, with a huge log directly behind the ball. And remember still in the trees right of the fairway. The rock was in the direction on the green and the log was running perpendicular to the fairway. I took an angle backwards but toward the fairway still and tried to blade it out but the ball somehow hit the rock and went backwards, on more dead leaves but now against the same log deeper into the woods.

 

Same line but now swinging literally parallel to the log with the club's hosel resting on the log, make contact but the ball hits an overhanging branch like 10 feet in front of me and falls straight down. Into the base/roots of a small bush.

 

It was so horrible, it was funny.

From the whites I aimed down the left tree line with driver, for the right half of the green. If I played from the blues, I'd do the same thing over the left bunker or even a shade left of that, except that line would have put me short and right of the green. Assuming a straightish drive.

I hit driver on every 4 from the white tees except #12. I will be doing that forever. The closer the better.

 

I hit a lot of fairway woods off the tee on the 4s. More than I hit driver. There are a lot of holes that I could hit 7- or 4-wood and still have a PW or less in to the hole. I know hitting from 60 yards is better than from 100, but on a par4 I'm just not thinking about getting that close on so many holes. But there wasn't much added risk for trying to go further on most holes. If you hit it 250-260, you are well past all the trouble and pinch points from the whites. If you're comfortable with the driver, pound away.
